Running Lights

Just food for thought. While driving, over the past years I have noticed that any oncoming pickups or suvs built on pickup chassis that have one or the other front parking lights (or driving lights) burnt out are invariably General motors vehicles. Is this a factory defect or what? Most of these people never know of their problem. Here in San Antonio I usually spot 2 or more a day. Just something to help you stay alert.

My 02 Chevy dually had a running light fail, when I bought the replacement the parts guy said it is because GM used too small gauge wiring. At that time there was an aftermarket wiring harness sold to eliminate that problem, and it also reduced voltage drop to the headlamps, which made them brighter.
Can't speak to later models.

That's a feature that no other manufacturers have. Very consistent over the years.

And all the newer cars that have adopted running lights have used LEDs which are much more durable and draw less current.

DW's 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has daytime running lights, not LED's.

I need to clarify my statement. I meant one light burned out is unique to Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

I think the marketing department said "Let's make sure a running light burns out so everybody will say...there goes a Chevy."

Brand recognition kinda. Gets your name out there.

Yes it is a chevy/gmc issue on the DRL bulbs from 99-2006 replace them with led's and problem solved.

I always wondered how such new (from my perspective) trucks could have a light out so consistently.

Arch may have it figured correctly with the mktg dept...
I definitely notice one of the 'one-light' models coming at me, and it is almost always a GMC or a Chevy SUV/truck. Have begun to rib my GMC owner friends over it as it has happened to both of them.
Now, on my Ford--the engine blew but the lights worked.
