Running lights won't turn off.

Hi all I am new to the site and was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. We just bought a 98 Salem 26' 5th wheel camper. When I hook it up to regular household power the outside clearance, running, and brake lights all turn on. Is this normal it there a way to turn it off? I don't want to burn out all my bulbs. I have tried to search for an answer online but all I have found is people trying to get their lights to do what mine are doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iRV2, Lights on , on shore power, should not be normal. Can you get a hold of the previous owner and see if he did anything to hook things up that way.
Can you find any switches near the convertor/charger that may be the source of the power feed .
If the lights are only powered, on shore power and not from the 5er's battery, that's the place I'd start looking.

Unless it was modified, the running/clearance/brake lights should only be powered from the trailer connector. There was a recent discussion about making or adapting a device to turn on the clearance light for a cool/different effect or for lights during a dog walk.

That sounds like a wiring issue. Likely the previous owner did some "adjustments" to the wiring and wired something wrong. Might be simpler and save time and aggravation to run it to a near by RV dealership and have a tech chase down the problem.

This webpage from etrailer.com shows the correct wiring for connecting trailers to the tow vehicle. Sounds like the tow vehicle or trailer plug is incorrectly wired. The most common cause of all 12VDC problems is a poor or missing ground. If the connecting plugs are wired correctly, a poor ground would be my next hunt.
