That's a great idea. Could be used as a security camera when away from the RV. Only thing i've ever had an issue with was some firewood came up missing.

I have a dash cam in all my vehicles. I went with the smarty bx1500 plus. Small foot print, has parking mode, and does GPS & audio. You can Disable any feature.

For the motorhome I am putting in a 4 channel dvr ( http://www.d-teg.com/products/add_04_brx1000.htm) that will take the input from the 3 existing cameras and an additional camera mounted in the dash. I have thought about making camera 4 an interior camera, but DW is not sold on that idea.

So your going to tie both side view, back up and a dash cam into the DVR box?
Does that keep all the cameras on all the time, or do you have to turn them on 1 at a time?

The cameras all come into the dash monitor. I am going to put in a tap or y cable from each camera with one lead going to the monitor and the other to the dvr. The monitor appears to have a 4th input and that will be the output of the dvr. If that input doesn't work then I will send it to my head unit screen.
The monitor will function as normal, and the dvr will record all inputs all the time while driving, and when parked it will do parking mode which is a snapshot every second.
I am still looking for a better dvr as I want motion based recording.

I ordered this: 2013 Newest DVR207 HD720P IR Car Vehicle Dash Camera DVR Rotable 270° Monitor | eBay
It has good reviews, for it's price point.
Since then Redbaron73 posted up what he has. So I did some looking there and may end up getting 1 of those for the toad. It looks like that company make some of the police dash cams.
The whole process is new to us, so we're starting cheapish.

I hate when dirt bags pull in front of you not realizing you need room to stop. I would like to shoot em like video game. maybe rig up a point ball gun. I guess a dash cam makes the most sense in case you hit these dim wits.

Dash cams.
No more than a toy, given the odds (IMHO)
Enjoy!

Wish I had one. On Thursday we were traveling West on the Trans Canada Hwy East of Revelstoke, BC. There are some snow sheds along this route that keep avalanches from blocking the hwy in winter. They are typically east and west bound separated by a wall.
On this day, they were paving in the East bound tunnel so had alternating one way traffic in the West bound tunnel. We waited for a good 20-25 minutes in line for the East bound traffic to clear. When it was our turn, the flag man was to stop the East bound traffic and let the west bound traffic proceed.
Well, we get half way into the tunnel and around the bend comes a semi. I was surprised to say the least. I moved over as far as I could and rubbed off the plastic lug nut covers on my right front wheel. As the semi went by, he missed my dr. Side mirror by about 6".
Then, further down the road on a fairly narrow section of highway, we come over a hill and there was a farmer coming toward us with his tractor. Another semi, comes up behind the tractor and going to fast to slow down, pulls out in front of us. Had to put the Right Side Wheels almost into the ditch to miss the truck and made it by without hitting the truck or the ditch.
A dash cam would have been handy in both cases. As it was, I had to settle for a couple of stiff ones at the end of the day. Tried to report the incident in the tunnel to the Dept of Transport but they as much as called me a liar. That just can't happen!!!
