RV age restricted campgrounds

NOTE: I know this a futile post, but wanted to express my opinion anyway

I recently read the article about campgrounds that restrict usage if your RV is over a certain age. I also read the comments and complaints the readers sent in as well as many on this forum.

Folks, and this isn't meant to belittle anyone, do you REALLY think the campgrounds care that you aren't going to use their campground? They have already said they don't want you. For you to say "they aren't getting my business" is like a double negative, it is exactly what they want.

With the huge number of RV'ers out there (most foolishly buying new units) and the crowding of campgrounds to the point that in some areas a six month reservation is required, does anyone REALLY think anything is going to change? By avoiding these campgrounds, you are playing into their hands and causing yourself unneeded stress by complaining to them. Honestly, complaining doesn't work very often, unless EVERYONE, including those with new RV's avoid the campground and let them know why. The pocket book is where the real action is, as long as they are continually full during peak months, owners could care less if you go somewhere else.

A perfect example is the trash the RV builders are putting out, the unethical sales people in the trade, and the impossibility of getting warranty work done. Owners have complained for DECADES about it, and what has it accomplished? Nothing. As long as people are buying new RV's against the advice of the old timers, nothing, nothing at all is going to change. It was the same with the auto and motorcycle industries. As long as they could sell all they could make, they kept turning out junk. It wasn't until quality competition came along (Japanese) did any change occur. It is the same with every industry, RV included.

So, instead of wearing yourself out complaining, boycott. Tell your friends the horror stories of new RV's and encourage them to buy quality used. They avoid the depreciation hit, and know the problems. Most would have been fixed, those that haven't, well, no different from a new one but lots cheaper. When sales fall, and it has to be drastically, then perhaps changes will be made. And when the majority of RV's become older, THEN and only then, will campground owners change their story and realize they are a service industry. But I understand that isn't going to happen....
like sheep to slaughter, the line forms here for new RV purchasers.

So, instead of complaining about the parks, relax, find a nice comfortable one where you're not required to take the EGO trip with a new RV, set up, relax, and buy something nice for yourself with the money you save.

The thing that always amazes me about these, is that their customers with sub-10 year old RV's are lowering the resale value of their expensive coaches by supporting such "rv resorts"

If someone turns me out, it's no sweat off my brow - to Hades with them. I stayed in 150 sites last summer, I was never asked and never turned out. I didn't make any reservations either.

If I do get refused, I'll make it a point to scream like a mashed cat on the internet though.

Refusing older RV’s and/or leasing permanent sites, both are usually advertised as such. When I see the ads I read them as “Nothing to see here, move along I will”. Neither has much to do with RV Camping lifestyle.

What about class A only parks? Are they better because they allow you in but shun the fifth wheels and travel trailers ? Everyone has a right to determine their own business model just as we have the option of taking our business elsewhere. It really isn't any different than a restaurant having a dress code requiring a coat and tie. I won't go there because it isn't my thing but some people desire that. Don't get upset because you don't qualify just scratch it off the list and move on. You probably wouldn't have liked it there anyway. And remember, someone has to buy new for us to buy used so Y'all keep on buying those new units I will need an upgrade someday.

I see this rule the same as no alcohol in most state parks. The rule exists so if there is a problem, they have a rule to enforce. Older, well maintained RVs are admitted with 0 issues. But if you pull up with the Randy Quaid Christmas vacation RV, you will be refused entry.

GLike already stated rule is so they have something on the books to refuse rigs that really are in poor shape. Camped all over and never refused for age, though I have to wonder why some even have the rule in place.. stayed at advance rv resort in Houston for months at a time.. they have the rule and even asked for pictures from my daughters rig prior to giving them a reservation. When you get there 80% of the rigs are full time in park like trailer park, and lots of rigs 10 plus years old with mold and dirt all over them. Even have a bus conversion from the 60,s and fema trailer as permanent residents. Not much of a resort.. still the rules are theirs to make and no big deal for me to move on.

Enjoy the journey.

Well said, apopj, but none of the loudly-offended owners are going to listen.
