RV Consumer Group.

Looking to purchase a used class A. Is Rv consumer group worth purchasing? This would be our first MH.
Thanks

Welcome to iRV2. I'm not familiar with them. Hopefully someone else will be.

I'm not a big fan of the RVCG as they don't test RVs or even actually see the RV.

Most their opinions are based on manufacturer's brochures, literature and information.

However, their opinion could be used as just another piece of information, but not the final word by a potential buyer.

Many of the RVs they list as unacceptable are in use by satisfied owners.

Better place to look for some stuff on RVs would be New Car Prices and Used Car Book Values - NADAguides that will give you the starting prices for them. This is just a starting point for pricing so that you do not pay too much. Try to get as close as possible to median price but if you can pay less then low you are doing good. Try to never pay more than the high price, lol. A lot of dealers will list things as optional when in fact they are standard.

Many of the RV Consumer Group's ratings are based on nothing more than spreadsheet models utilizing J.D. Gallant's subjective criteria to determine what the likely performance of an RV will be. As stated earlier, the ratings are NOT based on actual testing or even physical examination of the subject RV. Personally, I don't put much stock in their ratings, but to each his/her own......

I used them as one of many sources of information. I don't suggest anyone use them as a sole or even primary source of opinion. Glad I did it but after I learned more about MHs as a whole, I would probably not use it again if we do another search for a replacement for what we now have.

I used them too. I think there is value there - especially for someone new to RVs. It is interesting that without looking - they get the Motorhomes ranked about the way one would conclude after doing there own research. Obviously no one should buy based on a book of data, survey responses or sight unseen. But information is power. It was helpful in some ways in pointing out who was in bankruptcy - how manufacturers was perceived by owners and service centers etc.

I don't regret buying the 2 that were available during my hunt but don't think I will need them again.
