OMG, that is not a pretty thing to see. How the people lived is just amazing. How could there be only $50,000 in damages, the MH had to be worth more and was totaled.

Obviously a misprint.

The pickup alone would about $50k.

This serves as a reminder for me to keep the cruise set at 60 not 70.

Perhaps the MH was under insured? old toad?
You would be hard pressed to replace an American Eagle for that amount, no matter how old the rig was.

Coping W/Blowout in Class A

I was wondering the same thing.

My guess: left front, resulting in a hard pull to the left; any of us might've been a bit more aggressive than normal correcting considering what was blocking the left shoulder ahead (namely the end of a bridge, the leading portion of guardrail). The toad certainly yanked the tailend of the rig to the left, before it exited and plunged between the overpasses.

It'd be interesting to hear Mr. Wray's account of the mishap, to know if he was able to arrest/control the direction of skid in those last moments.

In any case, thank goodness this is just a colossal insurance claim and nothing more! I hope they are back to Rv'ing soon in a new rig.

It might be a good time to review the Michelin Video. By the way, every RV'er with whom I've spoken about tire inflation has given me values that are over-inflation, according to Michelin.

That's terrible but a good reminder on the cruise at 60 vs 70 thing. I have no idea how fast he may have been traveling but one just has to have a better chance of controlling these situations at lower speeds.

Wow, I can't believe all that damage and no one, even in the wreck behind was seriously injured. Bet their angels were working overtime on that!!

Thank you for posting the video, I never would have considered adding power. I would likely just take my foot off the gas, obviously, the wrong thing to do.

I had $50k in damage to my American Tradition in 2009, and that was only the front end and a long scratch down one side. The chassis damage along on that Eagle is going to be over $50k.

But the number in the article isn't a formal shop estimate - just something the reporter overheard somewhere. Or maybe the cop had to put some number in his accident report and snatched $50k out of the air. Probably sounded like a really big number to whomever said it.

There was rain in the area at the time and that may have contributed to the loss of control and crash. It sure was good to see that the occupants were not killed or very seriously injured.
