RV Driving School

I just wanted to make folks aware of a course that they may not have heard about. It is a RV driving school given by "RV Driving School, LLC" and run by a gentleman named Dick Reed. Our instructor was Jerry Ray, but they have other instructor throughout the country.

Today, my wife and I took our first of two days of lessons. Although we've been driving RV's for quite a while, the course experience was outstanding. We've got a second day of instruction scheduled for tomorrow and we fully expect it to provide us with driving skills that will have a positive affect on our entire RV'ing experience.

I have to say that the instructor presented the material in a methodical manner, building on each skill throughout the day. It was very hands-on and each driving skill was repeated and practiced until we displayed proficiency in it's application.

If someone is new to driving an RV, IMO the owner will find this course extremely valuable. Basic skills such as turning, driving in traffic, highway driving, U-turns, backing straight, backing into spaces, driving up/down grades, gear selection, brake useage, parking in lots, and other things will be practiced. It will quickly become apparent that driving an RV (Class A or TV-5er) is different than driving your car.

If someone has countless RV miles under their belt, I would also recommend the course. It will allow the veteran to brush up on skills that may have been lost, inappropriately learned and practiced, or never discovered when the dealer just tossed them the keys and said, "Oh, it's just like driving your car, only bigger. You'll be used to it in a day." (Yeah right!)

Again, I just offer this post to make folks aware of something that's available to make their RV'ing experience more enjoyable. Had I known of this driving school earlier (it began in 1992), I would have taken it sooner than today and saved myself some grief!

I'm also another fan of Dick Reed's RV Driving School, and I encourage all new RVers to take the course. Especially the ladies, if you are not the normal driver. Knowing how to safely get yorr RV down the road can literally be a life saver in an emergency.

There are always classes in California where they are headquartered but they do locations around the country as well. There is a class scheduled in Albany, OR in February 2005. Arizona classes are coming up in March (Yuma) & April (Mesa).

We have lots of folks in the Florida Boomers that could benefit from a good basic class.

How do I find out about rv driving course in upstate new york. How much is the course? After reading all the post I am definatly interested. We are planning a trip to florida in aug and it would be nice to enjoy the drive instead of worrying the whole way down.
