That is one thing I like about my Workhorse.. IF it's sitting on the ground, all 4 wheels down, All 4 jacks UP, in the "Highway" configuration..

I can and have crawled around under it full length from the very front (or rear) to the very rear (or front) under both axles, under all parts of the frame and out the other end.

And I"m over 300 pounds so I'm not a small diamater, Even if I am over six feet tall!

So, I never work under it "Up on jacks" cause....... I don't need to.

Not even on my mind to think of doing. This MH drops to within inches of the ground when jacks retract and I am slightly larger than a few inches.

Just horrible.

I do believe we had a forum member pass the same way a few years back.

Better safe than sorry. Do it right.

I got my husband to buy some jacks that will carry plenty of weight, neither of us want him to go that way In fact I believe they are rated for more then the requirement. He was under it when we first got it and it scared me, just to tight under there. I think he thought so too.

I have a friend that lost her husband that way, it was a car though. That had to be a terrible death for him and I'm sure she suffered over it too as she came home and found him that way.

I have to admit that I have been guilty of doing this. I justified it by telling myself that I was never under there long enough to pose a huge hazard. We all know that I was only fooling myself.

I bought myself a set of 12 ton jack stands a few months ago. Have yet to use them, but you can bet that I will from now on...

Always use proper support, even on a car.

I use two heavy duty jack stands under my front axle EVERY time I go underneath the rig with the levelers raising it for clearance.

Saw the same thing happen about 25 years ago to a guy who was working on a car with a tire jack and no jack stands.

It only takes a small break in a hose or seal and I don't care who you are you can't move that quick when all that weight suddenly no longer ahs support. Also, the bad part is if you aren't crushed immediately you probably would eventually die from internal bleeding. Jack stands are well worth it. Not concrete blocks or blocks of wood or shorts lengths of 4x4's.......Jack stands built for the weight.

I use those square ramp blocks. Raises the coach in the front about 3 - 4 inches...just enough for me and the creeper to get under there to do what I need to do. No, no jacks for me. Bob

I think I'll stick with a real safe method if you don't mind. I am paranoid about small places (6 foot 250 pounds) and never go under my unit unless it is darn near impossible for it to fall. I am building cribs to hold the unit up while I take off the floating axles to check my brakes for this years trips and for installing the air helper springs I bought for the old girl.

Are those the plastic ones about a foot square and connect together like Lego's?

If so I'll say goodbye to you now while you are still alive.

I don't trust plastic any further than I can digest it.

Doesnt say whether it was the lift jacks or jack stands that failed.. just 'jacks'.
