Ford is Telenav. Once you price the updates, if you are like me, you will be buying a RV specific unit.
Not happy with Telenav at all.

Does the RM 7710 come with life time updates? Are the updates done via PC downloads?

Amazon lists it with lifetime, I do not know if anyone else does.

Yes and Yes.

You need to register the unit by s/n with RM. This will give access to lifetime map updates.

I bought the RM 7710 and after 2 days returned it. I could not find a place in my truck to place it where I could see the screen on a sunny day. I have always resented purchasing an item and them have to purchase additional items to make it usable. I returned it for a refund. I can see my Garmin on the sunniest of days without any special filter or covers.

I had thought about using the screen cover for protection like I have on my iPhones and iPad, but decided since it spent most of it's life on the dash it would be safe.

I did buy the Real-Time Traffic module as an accessory. Money well spent.

Bought if from April at Recreation Nation. She has been great to the members here. In the past she has offered deep discounts and price matched.

We have the Rand McNally 5510 and just love it. Never had a problem with glare on the screen. I can see however where that might be an issue in a Class A, where it's several feet away from you, unlike my Ford e450 Class C.

OK...

Unless I find something different...I'm going with the Garmin dezl 560LMT.

Here are the 3 main reasons...

1. I own Garmins and like them.

2. Price:
The Garmin dezl 560LMT is complete at $370 on Amazon. The RM 7710 is $536. ($356 on Amazon, $90 for traffic traffic receiver and $90 for lifetime maps) That doesn't count if I need to by a glare shield for about $20.

3. Reviews. Both units get good and bad reviews...the RM seemed to have a higher %.

Granted, I think the RM unit has some great features but for $166 more, not sure it is worth that.

Now, I have some time for my "final answer". For the next couple months I don't expect to be navigationally challenged since I will be in a local CG with a couple trips to some other local area CGs I am familiar with. If something changes in price and/or features, I can still reconsider.

Have had many types of G.P.S. units now I have the Rand McNally 7710. By far the best GPS I've ever owned.

It is my fondest desire/wish to get the RM7710. I downloaded the manual and it is very well written and easy to understand. I also downloaded the Magellan manual and it's not as nicely done, so the choice was easy.

Keep in mind that I am really trying to like the RM unit. But...It appears that SOFTWARE updates for life are free. From their site:

This program provides map updates as they become available. If you participate in the Lifetime Map Program, you will receive notice that the maps are available, and the maps will be downloadable via the Rand McNally Dock. The first time a map update is available for a device, the registered owner will receive a notice describing the terms and the one-time fee (currently $89.99) for Lifetime Maps. We recommend that you register your device as soon as possible so as to be informed of any updates or new features available

This is some of the most ambiguous language I have seen. Nothing in the specifications for the 7710 says it is automatically part of the lifetime maps update program. Honestly, I am confused.

We have a Rand 7710 just finished a 8000 mile trip and love it. Camping World $339 less $30 internet cupon.
