RV insurance

We own a class A and are insured by State Farm for everything we own. But are there opinions as to whether another policy/company would be a better idea? Thanks.

I am pretty sure there are numerous insurance companies that can provide you with costs providing you put all your eggs that are in the SF basket into theirs.

I have had State Farm since I have been 16 years old. We have everything we own Insured thru State Farm, plus an Umbrella Policy. When we bought the MH everyone said that State Farm would be way too expensive. I got several quotes and nobody beat State Farm. Ours is $870 per year with a replacement cost policy for the first 5 years, so they based the premium on the MSRP, not what we actually paid for it. We also have replacement cost for anything stolen from it, and we took the $1000 deductible. Over the years I have received junk mail from other insurers saying they could beat State Farm and so far nobody has been able to do it in our case. We also have had a couple claims over the years, and they have always gone very smooth with them giving us our choice of who did any repairs. If you can get the right price there is absolutely no reason to go with another insurance company, it could actually complicate things if you had a claim involving two Insurance companies, ie MH damages Toad or vice versa, Tree falls on your MH while parked on your property. This way there is no possible conflict between companies.

If you own a stick home, you may want to consider getting a $Mill umbrella policy for additional coverage in case of law suits. Many RV policies don't provide enough coverage depending upon how much you have to loose. Do your research and get comparison quotes to see if someone has something better.

Our Million dollar umbrella policy with State Farm is about $285 per year and covers three houses, our MH, A trailer, my motorcycle, and three cars, two drivers. You can get them for higher amounts for more money, but for most the 1 mil is more than enough.

True, especially since the Umbrella coverage kicks in after the basic policy coverage is exhausted.

In Texas - State Farm would insure my Class A like a motor vehicle / car - not like a "motorhome". When we changed residence to SD we set up our full timer coverage. It's more expense but better coverage. We have the car covered at the same levels and that opened up the $1 million umbrella option for $130 a year. We are with Allied now.

The umbrella is with RLI.
