RV Maintenance Service Agreements

I am shopping for a new maintenance agreement and Wholesale Service Agreements have given me a quote. I currently have Good Sam and they are really to expensive for us. Does any one have any experience with this vendor good and bad please?

Thanks

If you mean www.wholesalewarranties.com I've been with them for 3yrs. now. No problems whatsoever with them. Just make sure you contact them BEFORE any work is done.

Just to be clear, Wholesale Warranties is a broker, not an insurer. They sell you a policy but somebody else is the actual insurer who pays claims. The terms and conditions of your policy (contract) you buy are what is important, so make sure you read it thoroughly & understand what is covered and how to make claims. Most complaints about these policies stem from misunderstandings about those things. They are most definitely not the same as the manufacturer's original warranty, nor do they ever cover "maintenance". They are strictly for the repair of certain kinds of failures.

Thanks to you both. There are several others like Xtra Mile. Any comments or POC for this company?

Gary is correct that wholesale warranties is a broker. Mine is an XtraRide policy from wholesale warranties. Much less than Good Sam, or any other company I looked at.

Thanks. That is what I meant to say was XtraRide. Looking on the web they only come up with a dealer to go through. Do you have a number that I can call the company? I am tired of paying the middle man. Again, thanks for all your input.

This may help. I do not know if they sell direct.

RV

Also, are you looking for an extended service plan or an extended maintenance plan?

Extended Service Plans provide 'protection' if things break after your factory warranty expires.

Extended Maintenance Plans are basically prepaid maintenance agreements where you pay $XXX.xx upfront to have routine scheduled maintenance performed at the recommended intervals for a set period of time (oil changes, coolant changes, repack bearings, etc.).

I have had great experience with my previous Extended Service Plan. Like many others, the Plan paid for itself. When the plan was close to expiration, I contacted the company & was told they do not sell direct, that I need to go through a dealer.......
Well, I made quite a few inquiries and the prices were way beyond what I wanted to spend, especially after I read the the Plan's Contract.

Now,you need to really understand the Plan's Contract & its content [SMALL PRINT]. Several stated that you are not covered if you're not in the USA. Meaning, if you travel into Canada or to Mexico, and something happens....they NO PAY!

The following is a partial reprint from The Ins & Outs Of RV Extended Warranties | Wheeling It [GOOD SOURCE OF INFO] Also, watch out for the Consequential Damage – One of the biggest potential bummers in a warranty claim can be denial of a big ticket item due to damage from a non-covered part. Imagine a non-covered part (say some type of gasket) blows and damages a big, expensive covered part (say, your transmission). Unless you have consequential damage the warranty company can legally deny your claim. This is a situation you never want to be in. Even if you decide to buy an inclusionary policy, make sure consequential damage is part of the policy.

We've been considering an extended warranty and contacted Wholesale Warranties. I was sent a quote which we're reading through but while on the phone with the sales rep, I asked specifically about the Consequential Damage policy. He said, "they" (not sure who "they" are) did not offer a Consequential Damage clause because if a maintenance part like a radiator hose blew (not covered) and the radiator was damaged, they wouldn't pay anyway BUT if the radiator blew and damaged the hose, they would because "they" don't consider it fixed till it runs and it can't run without a hose. I guess that makes sense.

We were quoted the "Comprehensive Level Plan". It looks pretty comprehensive but we're reading and rereading.

No, it doesn't, Karen. What he described to you was half of a Consequential Damage clause, carefully couched to make the underwriter seem all caring and sensitive.

Under Consequential Damage (which I have) they will reimburse for covered parts damaged by the failure of a non-covered part, and for non-covered parts damaged by the failure of a covered part. In your first example they most certainly would replace the radiator as required by contract. In the agent's description, despite his touchy-feely language the replacement of the hose would ultimately be at their discretion.

I bought my four year contract in 2012, including CD. I understand now that almost nobody is offering the CD any longer. So far my contract has more than paid for itself, but I will have to carefully consider renewal in 2016 if CD is not available. It is a real field leveler.

FWIW, Good Sam is a broker. They do not actually cover/underwrite the extended service contract, or their vehicle insurance.

Something must have changed since I signed up with them. I called them direct to get everything taken care of. By the way a good idea is to get gaskets & seals coverage. You can try 1-800-939-2806. That's the number I got when I googled them.

We're still on the fence about an extended warranty. I'm leaning toward it, DH is leaning away. I'd rather drop the few thousand for the 4 year warranty and not use it as to not have it and wish we had. DH would rather hold onto that $$$$ which I understand too.

If we make the decision to get one, I want one that will pay want it claims to pay and not use built in loop holes to wiggle out of it.

It sounds like the Consequential Damage clause is off the table though.

This thread just keeps getting better. Thanks for the information. I pulled up the website Free Wheeling very informative. I am still working with wholesale and these people, of course, are not forthcoming with all of the information found here so far. This in itself is deterring me from purchasing it. Please keep it coming on the info. Good stuff for us all to know.
