RV on order was discontinued

Has anybody dealt with situation and how did you handle it?

First week of October I agreed on a price, placed an order and put a deposit down on new fifth wheel from a dealer in Texas. Seven weeks after placing the order the dealer has notified me the manufactory has decided to discontinued this model. After accepting the order the manufactory decided seven weeks later not to build it.
The dealer has tried to find a replacement trailer and has found three trailers of the same model with different options and interior colors. I am willing to give on some of the options and interior color. The deal breaker is none of the available trailers have auto leveling.
In the build sheet the dealers listed a auto leveling system.
Dealer stated its not cost effective to install a aftermarket auto leveling system.

What would you do?

Frustrated in Texas

If they don't make it anymore, they don't make it. You're getting your deposit back, right?

Now since I trust RV dealers about as much as drug dealers... have you called the manufacturer to verify?

Don't let'em tell you the leveling system cannot be added. They're really telling you they're unfamiliar with adding levelers, and that they're unwilling to learn how to install them.

There are companies in Elkhart, IN that do nothing but add leveling systems--after the fact.

It's not rocket science.

I wonder why it took 6 weeks to tell you what you put money down on will not be made. I think I would give the manufacture a call just for some piece of mind.

I know when we put a deposit down on our 2012 tt. (Feb 1st) was told 6 weeks before they build that floorplan. About 6-7 weeks later the dealer called and said they were done making 2012's and we were getting a 13'. I guess after they use up frames tagged as 12's , they move on to the new batch of 2013 frames.

If a leveling system is a show stopper requirement for you, either cancel the deal or take it with an adjusted price and investigate aftermarket levelers yourself. As for "cost effective", that's your decision, not the dealers. Check out major companies such as Hydra (Bigfoot Levelers).

If it's a Lippert auto level system count your lucky stars and see the discontinuance of the manufacturing of this RV as a sign from above.

If this is the Fiver for you, then yeah, do the advise given above:

1) Call the manufacturer. Confirm the facts. Ask if they're is anything that can be done for customer good will in regards possible building you this trailer.

2) If no go, and you may find that the dealer knew this when taking the order, then you can decide if you want to accept one of the other trailers that they have located. Get quotes from the mentioned makers/installers of leveling systems. Use that quote, as well as any other adjustments from items that vary from what you ordered. And get that refunded from the dealer.

3) All of the above, is based upon if the purchase contract does not have a 'cancellation clause' - that allows the dealer to cancel the order. If that is the case, then as also recommended, get a refund and start over.

And OP, welcome to the board, looks like your first post!

Best of luck to you,
Smitty

Thanks for the advice. Dealer stepped up to the plate and made the deal right. Will post more details when the new fifth wheel arrives.

Thanks
