RV park availability San Diego October?

We're just north of Los Angeles right now, heading south. I am wondering what the availability on weekends will be from here on down to San Diego.

We have found so far that it's impossible to get a spot on a Friday night or Saturday night along the coast. Unless you're lucky. Apparently people put these months in advance for the weekends even into October it looks like.

Do you have much experience in this area of the country? What are your recommendations?

We had no luck on the phone but when we showed up we got a reservation at Campland on the Bay! noisy happy party place if you want quiet this not for you. Do not try parking at the waterfront parks we have a $158K class A we were told to leave as they consider Campers "homeless". We were told that if we remained at the Anzo Park we would have our motor home impounded! Open to the public between 4AM to 2AM what a laugh, we have noticed 99% of the campers are from Ca no one wants to deal with the bs.

Lots of places to consider in the SD area, if there is room is the question. Weekends probably tougher than during the week and it depends how long you want to stay.

I would start making phone calls to check availability for when you plan on getting there.

We've stayed at Mission Bay RV Resort and the location was good to visit places of interest in the Metro area.

There is a free Casino (Viejas) camping place just east of San Diego in Alpine off interstate 8. If you are good to boondock for a few days or they also have a full hookup campground nearby very reasonable. Factory outlets/ free shuttle to the shopping center and casino. 30 minutes to San Diego.

I suggest you check www.rvparkreviews.com and telephone your choices. City wise you might look at Oceanside, Carlsbad, Solana Beach, San Diego, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, Coronado and Santee. Good luck.
Drive safely. Have fun!

We are headed to Santee Lakes next week. We have never been but it looks to be about 20 mins away from the shore. I made my reservations about six weeks ago and took the last spot.

Minnesota51-
Since you asked, we keep going back to "Chula Vista RV Resort and Marina" 1-800-770-2878. Easy access from I-5. Not cheap and the sites are fairly narrow but with privacy hedges and picnic tables and enough room for slides and awnings. Nice pool and showers and laundry. The beach, a cafe and marina are right outside the gates. The park is very well maintained. My guess is that they might have a vacancy tonight or tomorrow.

San Onofre State Park quite often has availability. Never have stayed there myself. It is right along I-5 but the beach is on your other side. Check out the San Diego Count parks website also

Campland on the Bay is not our kind of place.

X2 for this resort. We just left there a couple weeks ago and based on the occupancy at that time, I'll bet they'd have room for you. One of our favorite places in that area.

Have you tried San Diego county parks? Camping
We have stayed at the Sweetwater park and it is quite nice and I've heard good things about the other parks.

I am the original poster.

Things are probably open during the week, but Friday and Saturday nights seem to be booked for weeks or months in advance.

I'm thinking that for Friday and Saturday nights will try to call a couple days ahead, but probably will have to stay away from the popular areas on those days.

We're on a two month trip from Minnesota, and then down the coast from San Francisco to San Diego, then across southern Arizona and maybe down to Corpus Christi, over to Houston, and then shoot straight north to Minneapolis around November 1st.

We've got a heated basement in our 26 foot Itasca Sunstar, not sure how cold of temperatures it can handle once we get in the northern states in November. But people have told me if we're running the furnace we should be fine.

Stayed at the KOA in that area. Easy to get to and from everything, pretty sure they get busy, also wanted to try the Santee Lake Park, I had too many puppies then.
