Smile RV Park Rules

Have you encountered any unusual RV park rules recently?

In the many RV parks we've stayed in I have seen lists of rules that take up to 4 pages and others, like our last one, that had only 4 rules in total. Today however we checked into an average looking RV parks and noted one that I have never seen before:

"No dumpster diving."

Is that a bad sign when they have to have a rule against dumpster diving?

I thought it might be good for a laugh to hear of some of the other unusual RV park rules you have encountered.

Please try to keep this light - it is not intended to be a complaint post.

In more than one campground near popular fishing destinations, I've seen restroom signs reading "Do not clean fish in restrooms. Please use cleaning stations". Now some idiot (or idiots) had to have done that in order for the sign to have to be posted. I'm pretty sure "cleaning" did not mean giving them a shower in there.

Sign of the times?

Not so much "unusual", but I thought it was very interesting that on a recent stay the number one item in our list of rules had to do with "not flying drones over the RV park".

Yes, rules are there because some people don't have common sense.

RE: Fish cleaning. We volunteered in a very popular park - Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore, Michigan. It has a state-of-the-art fish cleaning station - stainless steel, grinder, big work tables, etc. There was also a donation box. When opening it one day we found fish guts in it that we had to clean up. We walked the road about 100' from the cleaning station and there was a pile of fish carcasses dumped that we had to clean up. We did our daily checks of the campground sites and there was a table full of blood and fish guts with more in the firepit. They had left that morning but the office had their license plate number so luckily, they were fined.

The above is just about fish but during our volunteering in other parks we'd find similar stupid offenses like dumping the blue boy full of waste in the camper's kitchen sink. Stripping down and taking a evening bath in the camper's kitchen sink. Oh... and the fire pits - dirty diapers, garbage, tin cans, bottles, you name it! Yep, we cleaned it up. Signs on the loop faucets "use only for filling water containers". Under the faucets was a gravel base area and we kept noticing that that area wasn't draining but instead had a constant area of standing water. We removed the rock base and found garbage, hair, toothpaste. We dug down about a foot and replaced the dirt and gravel with new - in every single faucet area of the 200-site campground!

Luckily, not all campers are so inconsiderate and regardless, we absolutely loved volunteering in those parks that we enjoy!

Rules are there for a purpose. Everything has to be spelled out or people don't think.

Friend built a new RV Park from ground up.
Finally opening day is close at hand.
He and I were talking and I asked about 'Rules'

He stated just basic common sense ones........1/2 sheet at most

2 years later we stayed at his RV Park.
Rules..covered 2 full pages
Asked him.."what happened"

His reply..........people are STUPID

Just reserved at a park that says refrigerators and other appliances not allowed outside unit.

Driving thru, saw a fridge in the bed of a pickup.

Also, only the use of 1 power source plugged into 1 outlet is permitted.

Yet even with 2 pages of rules there will still be too many fools who don't bother to read them because they've been doing this long enough that they know how things are "supposed" to be done.

That or they are the type who are convinced that rules are just for the sheep... not for the wolves.

We were staying in a park one time for a month and every Sunday a group of people would come in and dive in the dumpsters. The mess they left behind was unbelievable. Several people complained to the management about it but they did not seem to care.
We would never go back there.

I made up a saying a while back, in regard to the comment quoted above....

"Not only are we outnumbered..........we're surrounded!"
That pretty much says it all.

I was at a state park recently and there is a sign on the dumpsters. No fish guts in dumpster. Ask Campground Host for proper disposal. I intended to ask what the proper procedure was but never got around to it. Probably throwing the guts back into the lake.

Stayed at a place last year, charged me extra $5 for my chiweenie, told me they had a fenced dog area with nice grass all over. One of the rules listed on the info sheet they handed me stated clearly, no dogs allowed on the grass. Well, obviously they want you to use the "dog park" and not soil the sites. Did not think much about the rule until I walked with my pup over to the dog area and noticed on the gate a list of rules. #3 - no dogs allowed on the grass
