RV Repair shop responsibilities
Just wondering about the security and responsibilities of a repair shop for a customer's RV. Is it "normal" for a dealership to require a signed statement claiming no responsibility for anything that might happen to the RV while in their lot for repairs. My 5th wheel was broken into and the TV stolen while sitting in the dealerships fenced lot. I have filed an insurance claim because of their policy and I was wondering if that is industry standard?

Probably is industry standard. Always read the back of the service order.

It may be worth a discussion with the repair shop to ask them to cover your deductible. You are incurring the effect of the theft on your policy and possible increase in premium.

I suspect the policy was pushed by their insurance company to limit their responsibility. Good luck with the claim.

In all probability it will be your problem; however, there are many variables. Will they cover the deductible as customer good will? Do they have security cameras, post a security sign, or hire a night time patrol? If so, you may be able to claim negligence if one or all the systems were not working. Have there been previous break-ins, how many, how long ago? By hiding a known risk at the shop they may assume some liability. A great deal depends on the laws of your State. Don't give up easily, it should be worth your while to pursue the management for some type of settlement. At worst, you will bear the brunt of the loss.
Good luck.

Most laws only require them to take normal care, in other words, lock the door. The release you signed may not be any good either as they had full care, custody and control while in their locked, fenced yard. But you would need an attorney to get the correct info.

Industry standard. One shop I have been to does a walk around for exterior damage and if any present, it is noted on the inspection sheet. Same sheet is gone over again before you depart

It's a fairly standard disclaimer, but it may have little legal standing, per Kalynzoo and Mr D comments. However, it gives their lawyer/insurer some place to start from, a place that pushes the responsibility toward you rather than them. Most states severely limit that sort of disclaimer, but it may not be worth your while to contest it. Which is, of course, exactly what their insurer hoped.
