Hello, my name is Daryl. I am new to the forum and initially I joined to get some honest feedback concerning RV resorts. I see where these can be a beneficial investment, but I am really hoping to connect with some actual members to hear what they have to say, good or bad. I know this can be a passionate discussion, and everyone has their favorites, but I appreciate any information for a newbie. I am not a full timer yet, I am still renovating my RV and considering adding a resort membership to my overall plan. Thank you for reading, and for your response.

I would wait and see how you travel after a year or so before I committed to a membership in one.
We might have made good use of one during our first year or so but then we began staying in one place at least a month and often more to get the best rates and become familiar with a given area.
The membership resorts all seem to have a two week or sometimes a 3 week limit on stays and that would not have worked for us at all.
We did use Passport America a lot when we were in transit - about $45 per year for half price stays in participating RV parks.

From my perspective, If I'm going to stay in one resort, why not buy a "Park Model" and skip the expenses associated with a coach... Ours has wheels for a reason...

Not Full Timing then that means you will need to go to same place over and over and over in order to reap the benefit of membership cost.

Unless it is a Thouand Trails ZONE membership.........then you will have to go to several places over and over and over to reap benefit of membership cost

There are some very low cost 'memberships'....basically discount programs.
PassPort America is one. $44/yr and you get 50% off daily fee at places that participate ......restrictions on where and how many nights but use it 2-3 times and you have recouped yrly. cost----use it more and it is a benefit

Full Timing...........then you can really cut fees because you can use it frequently especially if you have affiliate programs as part of membership

BUT THE ONLY WAY TO REALLY BENEFIT (except for the discount program PA)
Buy RESALE.....buy RESALE.....buy RESALE

Never buy into a place directly thru that campground======buy RESALE
Pennies the dollar and then USE IT

RESALE and USE IT

Otherwise .......waste of monies

What ever you decide about owning a campground membership, stay away from Western Horizons and anything to do with them

Go read articles at RVLove.com for great info on Thousand Trails memberships. Other than that Passport America and Escapee's are worth the money..

I had Western Horizons for several years, stayed at home resort as well as affiliated resorts. I was happy with the system until they decided to start selling off resorts- stating they were right to do this as they owned the properties. When they sold my home resort and were changing the dues, they offered an out to cut agreement with them. I accepted the last and am not affiliated with them and happy with that.

I have a thousand trails membership affiliated with my daughter and S-I-L. Ican use all the parks they can and just pay the maintenance fee. about $500 a year. If I use it for 14 days a year it's paid for itself. The more I use it is money in my pocket. Look at a map of where their parks are and see if it will fit your needs prior to buying anything.
