hi everyone,
I will be putting in an rv pad at the house. I would like to put in one of those carport type structures for the rv and would welcome any suggestions from people who have done this and live in an area that gets modrerate to heavy snow. Any help would be great.

I have two of the metal carport structures - not for the RV but for cars. I'd suggest you get one at least two feet longer and maybe three or four feet wider than your RV. With my double wide auto cover metal structures I have to park the cars so that the doors open between the metal support bars. I also have the weather side extended a few feet down that side to help keep out the rain.

Actually, I didn't stop at just an awning. I built, er had built a steel building without any windows. I needed some extra storage space, plus a place to let the slides out in anticipation of any maintenance issues in the future.
It sure came in handy many times.

search posts by me (Tim&Paula) and you will find pictures of a metal garage I installed. Turned out nice. It sure was worth the money. Easy to take care of my DP now.

your township building dept. can tell you what type of snow load you should prepare for as well as zoning issues. Good luck

My B-I-L actually went farther and turned his into a full blown garage... wood sides, power, floor, doors, everything.. Looks good and was fairly cheap.

Maddawgs, what are you looking for? Just a cover? I personally would do as suggested above and get one that was wider than the coach then wall it in.. Plastic privacy lattace would work, but I would use something like 5/8" 4'x8' Grooved siding (Menards sell one that already primed, forget the name, but its great stuff) and turn it into an enclosed shed.

we started with a carport idea and it turned into a 2 story with loft 850sq ft storage/living quarters/seasonal change out of clothing and home base for maintenance and repairs

Hi,
Thanks everyone for the replies (i knew you were out there

). My plan is for a free standing type carport 4 feet longer, 4 feet higher, and about 4 feet wider than my 32 foot Cambria. I currently have a email into my town to find out exactly what I can do and what kind of permits I need and I will put a call in when they open. Keep the recommendations and suggestions coming-every bit of info helps.

didn't build a place for my mh got lucky it fits into my existing shop works out well protects the coach and gives me a place work on it,vintage machine, and i fully agree if you do any work on it yourself fully enclose it is nice to be out of the weather when repairs are needed.
i leave mine plugged in when i'm not using the shop and if forces me to start it and move it regularly when i do.
that has it's benefits moved it today found the alternator quit charging instead of finding it next weekend when it is going camping so have time to fix it without delaying the dw's trip.
how ever you decide good luck and happy travels
