I do not pull a toad but I do pull a 5th wheel; so I have 4 axles to pay for. To me I just pay the cost and except the fact that it is a toll-road. If I did not want to drive on the toll-roads I could by pass them and set up my GPS to avoid toll-roads. But I figure that the time and faster ability to get to where I want to go is worth the cost.

If you put a separate EZ pass in the toad, would it pick that up as a separate vehicle? Curious...

I just checked our I-Pass account. We went over the eastbound Chesapeake Bay Bridge in late September.
We were charged $12, using our out of state Illinois I-Pass. This was for our two axle Winnebago Aspect towing our Subaru.
Personally, I don't think this is too bad a cost, considering they don't charge going westbound, assuming you're coming back off the Eastern Shore the same route.
The bigger rip off I thought was the $31.75 we paid for the Ohio Turnpike.

While the expense is steep on nearly every toll road (Mass Pike isn't bad) IMO it's not correct to call it an RV ripoff. RVs pay the exact same rate as the trucks & trailers that deliver our everyday goods, including food & fuel. We all pay for those tolls, as part of just about every single thing we buy. And there still isn't enough money to maintain the highways & bridges the way they should be done. It's passenger cars that get a special price break, cause passenger cars = voters and the pols don't want the general electorate PO'd at them.
Just my $0.02, even though it is surely not a popular opinion.

We've been on the road full time since last October and have visited the 48 lower states. The highest toll so far has been in Maryland (3 axle MH + toad = $58.00 on I95 plus an additional $10.00 about 11 miles further up the road) along with paying a toll in NY on I90 that is partly used for Erie Canal maintenance. Paying tolls should guarantee that the roads are maintained but driving through major metropolitan areas (Chicago is the worst) dispels that myth.

I don't know how long it takes for the average RV'er to hook up or disconnect a toad but it takes the wife and I less than 5 minutes.
We're very careful where we disconnect and hook up. On the Bay Bridge before the toll plaza there are NO STOPPING signs, so we do it before we get to that point. Within 100 ft after the toll plaza there's plenty of room to re-connect and no signs. A Maryland Trooper watched us hook up this time and didn't bat an eye.

Unfortunately many times the tolls end up in general revenue and are used for things other than R&R.
Biggest ripoff is a motorcycle pulling a trailer. It is three axles and that is what you pay for. Only have 4 tires!

The 407 around Toronto Ontario charged about $85.00 for 56 km. includes $50 photo fee for 40 ft phaeton and $4.00 for toad + miles / km .

Didn't work for me. I paid for the RV and 2 extra axles, plus the car, because I didn't bag the toad EZPass.
An EMail removed the extra charge.
Try bagging both pass's. They get a picture of the toads plate and bill its pass.

In the Houston, Texas area it may or may not pick it up as a separate vehicle. I think(but I am not sure) that speed through the sensors is the determinant. It could also be the new sensors vs the old ones. I really just do not worry about it.

Easy fix. Stay off toll roads unless absolutely necessary.
