How sad! I'm going to guess the two boys where buckled in behind the driver on the couch.

How horrible.
It ticks me off that the sgt. said,“These kinds of collisions can often be avoided if drivers are aware of their surroundings and aware of the traffic around them.”
It is almost as if he is saying the RV driver is responsible for the death of his kids. The commercial vehicle ran the center line and collided with the RV. He doesn't know if the driver of the RV sped up, but on his breaks, or what went through his mind. Sometimes things happens so quickly one does not have time to react. It was a thoughtless thing to say.
Sending prayers for the family and all involved.

I am going to guess that many 18 wheelers wish that also. Those old school un-divided highways are frightening no matter what 2 vehicles are approaching each other. There is clearly nowhere to go to avoid this once one or the other crosses the center-line. When the approach speed is 120 to 150 MPH you have no chance to stop or avoid. Really an archaic and antiquated method of travel.

When you look in the cab's of some of these trucks it looks like a command center with computers, GPS not even counting the use of cell phones etc. Look away from the windshield for a split second and who knows what can happen.
Same thing with passenger vehicles, I continually see people on cell phones talking or looking at the phone.
Things happen in a split second. Nothing you can say makes up for the loss. My condolences to the family.

This happened in a very remote region on the Navajo reservation in Arizona. It's difficult to comprehend that four vehicles were involved. Really sad.

I thought the same thing...kinda sounded like "if the RV driver had been paying better attention." This is a horrible event, and every driver's nightmare...to have someone cross the median. Condolences to the RV family.

I agree the RV really had no chance to avoid the collision, hopefully the Sgt. meant the truck driver. All he needed to do was pay attention to his driving. So sad, our prayers go out to the families involved.

Driver and 5 passengers in the RV transported to the hospital and 2 dead at the scene. That's 8 people in the RV. Not something I'd do but at least it didn't contribute to the accident.
