Gary, glad you and Karen had a good trip and found a good motel room.
There has been a few times in the past 8 years that we have been on the road that we use motels or a time share condo. As been posted by others you must do a cleaning job on some of the things you are going to touch. The phone-clock-tv remote- the whole bathroom-in the time share run all the dishes thru the dish washer.
OK I guess you get the idea, only you can prevent getting ill.
I'm still happy when we get back to the motor home.

Hi historyljc,
Your post with the comment "Somehow, I don't see one good experience with Price Line and Marriott Hotels equals a major lifestyle change and sold RV. " is right on. I'm kind of astonished at many of the replies. As we go through life exclusion (of choices) is usually a bad choice. Moderation is usually a better choice. My OP was meant to inform those who, like me, may have never tried an online reservations site. In addition, bidding a low nightly amount combined with choosing the highest hotel rating possible could end up providing a pleasant experience.

For those times when a short trip (purpose and time) is much easier completed not using the coach, I will try Priceline again. I'll even post the results here.

The bottom line is that we like to travel and see new places. Sometimes that involves the rv, sometimes it involves hotels, sometimes it involves cabins, camps or apartments and sometimes it just involves friends and family. It's all good and each experience has its pros and cons.

I decided to do some calculation based on a trip we do quite often to visit a Grand Daughter. The trip is about 550 miles one way so I could save about $270.00 in fuel taking the GMC Envoy instead of the HR Endeavor. For a 2 1/2 star hotel at the destination it would be about 300 for 4 nights at a the best RV park in town would be 140. So the saving could be at most 110. That amounts to 27.50 per day. I am going to spend a lot more than that eating at restaurants. So unless the trip is shorter about 2 days I can not see why I would give up all the comforts of my Motor Home to stay in an unknown Hotel with unknown service and eat lousy restaurant food.

Hi itdave,
Congratulations on your good taste in toads. I tow an 05 ENVOY XUV.

For all those posting their horror at the the thought of staying in a hotel and eating in restaurants consider:
This thread is about choices. It is about variety. It is about adventure. For me, it is not about cost. For me, the same old, same old, no matter what, gets a little boring. Why would anyone eat in restaurants with lousy food? Not me, I eat in good restaurants, with good food. The wife really enjoys these nice upscale restaurants and upscale hotels, every now and then. If she is happy, I am happy. I also would not stay in the variety of 2 1/2 star or lower hotels. If the trip calls for no coach, I'll stay in 3 1/2 star or above hotels. I traveled around the world for 14 years (when I got paid to work) (over 300 nights per year). I always stayed in upscale brand hotels. Never had a problem. I always ate in upscale restaurants, never had a problem.

Variety is the spice of life. Each of us can choose to embrace different experiences or keep on doing what we have been doing. I'll embrace variety.

GaryKD,

If the bed in the motel is better than the one in your MH, then it is time to do an upgrade in your MH. We swapped out the original mattress with a Select Comfort within a week or 2 of buying our coach. Our pillows are down & feathers that we replace annually. Never been in a motel with a better bed & pillows than I have.
