RV Wave????

Is there such a thing as a RV Wave as we travel down the highways . For example us Jeeper people have a wave, I know when I rode a motorcycle we/they have a wave too. If we RV'ers do not have one why not and I propose that we adopt one ASAP!! .

We don't have one because it takes both hands on the wheel to keep these wandering monsters in a single lane.

Sometimes yes; sometimes no. In remote lightly traveled areas I tend to wave more. Traveling around the Gaspiť peninsula there are few Motorhomes so most of us wave. Where I'm passing a MH every 10 minutes, not unless they initiate it first.

What's the Jeep wave ?

Or do I have to show proof of ownership before being told ?

I generally wave at all MH, 5er, TT, and van conversions. Two lane roads make it easy to see if there is a return wave. Divided highway is more difficult to see if they returned the wave but they probably did not see me wave.

Nothing real official that I'm aware of. Though suspect some of the 'sub clan's' of RV's may have a 'secret wave and handshake'!

I wave if it is safe, and if I know the other driver and or passenger coming towards me can see me. It can be a 'hands off the wheel wave'; or a 'just raise the open hand while keeping contact with he wheel wave'; or a 'nod of the head and smile acknowledgment'. I've also been known to do the old (I say old, as it seems that less then 15-20% of the times I see this now a days...) Double flash of the taillights when say passing a fellow RV'er's and easing back in line in front of them. (Truckers used to use this to thank those they were passing, that flasher the headlights to let them know it was save to pull back in. I think on this years 5-7 months of travels during two trips - I saw this maybe 15 times. And I always flash when a truck, or RV, has cleared me while passing. Now, sometimes it's pure timing, the trucker may not have seen my flash as they were not looking in the mirror at that time. I usually wait until I see their heads turn to look in the passenger mirror, and flash then...)

One of my favorite sightings was in Alberta. A Class C passed us, and the owner thad a LED sign on the back. Must have had different short messages ready to display. When he passed us, it flashed 'PEDAL FASTER!'. I saw him in traffic a bit further, and saw a second message in traffic 'GOING NOWHERE FAST!'... A who new approach to 'waving' to fellow RV'er's!

Best to all, have fun, be safe,
Smitty

There's also the Miata wave (which can only properly be done with type A & B Miatas).

I wave other RVs if I'm on a two lane road, don't bother if out on the interstate.
