Isn't that Superstition MT in the background? Vickie and I stayed there a few years ago. Someone had thrown a big rock and busted a chollo up. I reached down carefully and picked up a piece to examine it and when I tried to throw it down that thing wrapped around mi fingers and I had blood running dripping of my elbows before I finaly got all the spines out. I had to take cutters and cut each one off then pull each out. I was going to bring a piece home and show my son. Never, never try to put a piece in a baggie. I put it in a glass jar, durn thing stayed green for 2 years. Vickie still laughs at that one.

a chollo is a painful thing that is disguised as a cactus. it looks so beautiful and harmless, almost as peaceful as a sleeping manatee over there in your waters, but the chollo will quickly convince you to not fall onto one again.
if you are interested in grabbing ahold of one just to see, although you can take my word for it, maybe Nat could mail you a piece

Well I did a search online and came up with the chollo cactus. Now I know what we're talking about. I'll also be very carefull during my next southwestern trip. Thanks.

I gotta admit, Nat, the first time I read your post, I shook my head also, but NOW that I know what a chollo is, I just can't help but roll around on the floor laughing my butt off!! It was just the way you said it AFTER I read it again (and again!) No wonder Vickie still laughs at that!

This one belongs in the RV'ing Humor section! Thanks again for the laugh!

My wife Amy took a picture of a mother cactus wren sitting on a nest in the middle of a cholla. I will have to reduce the size so we can put it on the forum or in the photo gallary. The reason the bird did not get very nervous was it knew that anyone in "there right mind" would not bother her inside that cholla!

I keep gravitating back to Nat's story...what is it that makes it so funny to me? I just giggle like a school girl every time I read it!

Is it just me??!!
