Well that's odd. I just checked on a review I made in the fall of 2012 and one I made this November and neither one is there.
I am sure that I have posted at least three reviews.
Maybe the fourth one gets posted?

Sorry folks, I didn't mean to confuse anyone. I went to their web site and looked at their FAQ's about posts. Those were their words.

Probably should have put them in quotation marks.

BTW, IMO... It's a shame that there are probably hundreds or even thousands of valuable reviews and experiences that people have submitted that never got posted because of this poilcy... Mine being two of them...
Stevie, as it was explained to me, it's their way of ensuring that the reviewer is genuine and not some CG owner trying to pump up his/her own ratings. They figure that if you review three different CGs over a period of time then you must be the real deal.

Just how valid is a bunch of reviews on a campground that are two or three years old?

Sorry to go against the flow here , but IMHO the site is not reliable.

Craig, that is what I had heard from a number of people, but in thinking Pepper was part of RVParkreviews, wanted to see if that was their logic... Thanks.

Dog Folks, I kind of agree with you on that. In reading reviews, I will rarely go back more than a year or so myself... Except the rarely reviewed campgrounds.

The thing that gets me is that while there is an abundance of reviews on popular campgrounds, the smaller less reviewed ones could use more. If this policy wasn't in place, perhaps campgrounds that only have a few reviews over a several year period, might have more said about them and give us a better idea about them.

The only thing I wish they would change is the way you search for a named park. They go by the city, which may be the closest city to the park or their mail address. Is there a way you can search a state and have the campgrounds show up alphabetically for that state?

I don't think a search of a state will return an alphabetical list, but you can search by campground name and by geographic area from a 5 mile to a 100 mile radius. Here is the search page.

we're not 'TOO' trusting of it.... not because the reviewers are untrustworthy,
but we don't know THEIR standards as it compares to our standards
"One man's trash is another man's treasure" and all that...

But if someone has reviewed a place we've been to and they have a similar slant on it as we do, I'm more inclined to trust their view on another park...

I've gotten excellent ideas from here on irv2.com with pics of sites, etc...

I also use other sites too to get a broad opinion of parks - just discovered this the other day--> RV Trip Planning, RV Travel Tools, RV Travel Journals, RV Travel Check List and even bore down to street view on google maps or google earth

I've heard that the site is working on a major upgrade that might improve things like the ability to search, etc. Maybe they could also do something like weight recent review more than older ones? Maybe we should suggest some things they could improve. Who knows, maybe someone there reads this forum?

@docj,

Social Knowledge now owns rvparkreviews.com. I'm sure improvements will be forthcoming.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Well, then it might not hurt to provide some suggestions about things users would like to see. The worst that can happen is that no one will listen.

I, for one, would like to see a truly searchable database so I could look for multiple things like parks with swimming pools and dog runs in the vicinity of a particular city. The current search mechanism is very primitive when you are searching for multiple attributes.

Lori is right, RVParkReviews.com is now a sister site to iRV2. We are indeed working on a major infrastructure update at the moment. Once that goes live you will see a "fresh" version of the site with some minor improvements. Our goal is to get on the new platform ASAP so we can work out the bugs before the busy camping/planning season starts later in spring. Once settled we will work on new features based on all your wonderful feedback.

We understand some of the policies are frustrating and will be thinking through them to see if we can find a better way. We plan to find ways to allow all users to give feedback on reviews in a similar way as Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Amazon. We also plan to allow users to upload their own photos because we know real photos are a great way to see a campground.

StevieG, you are right, the logic for requiring three reviews is rooted in trying to prevent "one hit wonders" from using the site to either leave praise for their own campground or rant about an issue. We figure if people are willing to leave three reviews they are committing to being part of the review community and we can probably trust them a little bit more. Obviously this too can be gamed so we are thinking through ideas. One idea would be to let reviews from everyone show but denote those of the new reviewers so a reader can keep that into consideration. We could also put a filter in place so the end user could filter so they can set their account to see reviews by people with 1, 2, 3 or more posts.

PLEASE keep the feedback coming, we are listening and planning to make the system better!
