I received this in my email today regarding an ad I have on irv2 classifieds. I'm sure most people are aware of these types of scams, but I just want to point it out just to spread the word.

It is truly unfortunate that there are some people who cannot see through this B.S. as soon as it arrives.

Internet Crime Complaint Center (if you so choose):

Internet Crime Complaint Center

See "File A Complaint" in the lower right hand corner.

Yes, a great deal of these are off-shore, but the information is still maintained even if it results in a current dead end.

There was a study done many years ago regarding viruses. I'm sure the same applies to Scams. It went something like this. About 90% of computer users will open an email even knowing that there is a virus inside. About 60% of computer users will open a virus itself just to check what it does.

Stupid is as stupid does.

p.s. tell them to send you a $500,000 cashiers check and you'll consider being their guardian.

What a segway. From classified ad to needing your help? It must work or they would stop doing it. Nuts.

And. Not all these scams originate off-shore. Around 2008 or so a Nigerian scam boiler room was found to be run by a senior citizen near Portland, Oregon. Nice little old lady was figured to be worth about 20 million dollars plus.

It only needs to work once and it is a success that is why these scams continue. This is not new...I received them by snail mail prior to the internet and email.

I get those all the time from Craigslist and the likes. I've messed with several of them. I'll ask them for stupid stuff and have them run around in circles when I can. They make for great entertainment.
Let me say that I'm also a network security person, so I have a good background in what these guys try to do.

I got a call on my home phone the other night saying they were from Windows, not Microsoft. Saying there was a virus on my computer and wanting me to go to my computer and turn it on so they could down load a program to clean it up. I told them if it were so they would be calling from MICROSOFT, which they do not call any of there product users. I could hear several people on phones in the background. I toyed with them for a couple of minutes before they hung up on me.

What a long strange trip it's been.
