Schwintek slide mechanism replaced
Slide would not close flush at the bottom. During the last operation of the slide before this, heard loud popping noises when extending slide.
Turns out the loud popping noises was the sound of the slide motor gear skipping teeth on the rack.
The repair tech explained that the factory (Winnebago) installed the slide columns (what the motors are mounted on) a bit too far apart. This allowed the skipping to occur whenever the slide motors were even slightly out of sync as the gap between the motor gear and the slide rack changes when the motors are out of sync.
The repair tech stated that they have seen this before, that "they do 3 of these a month", that the Schwintek slide is a good product when installed and operated correctly (keep your finger on the button a few seconds after operating slide) and that none of the slide mechanisms they have replaced have come back for additional repairs.
The entire slide mechanism was replaced under warranty - kudos to Winnebago as we have had this coach over 2 years although it WAS an installation issue that created the problem.
Kudos to USAdventure RV in Davenport Iowa for incredibly fast and competent service.
Shame on you Beckleys RV in Thurmont Maryland for extremely slow and incompetent service. We brought the MH to this dealer for the second time with the same problem about 6 months ago. They kept the MH for 3 months and the slide broke again the 3rd time we used it (of course 800 miles from home - which turned out to be a good thing as we didn't go back to them).
