search feature

I'm new to the forum and can't seem to find a way to do a search. Am I missing it or isn't there one?

The 3rd section down from the top of this screen and the 3rd word from the right is 'Search'. I have a hard time getting the information I want quite often so just play around with it.

Welcome!

I've found it difficult as well. There are two toolbars, one above the other. The lower toolbar has a search tab. Not sure the best way to describe its location but it's the teal toolbar with white lettering.

There really is no search function. Every time I use it so much stuff comes up that has nothing to do with my search. I still have to sort through it

I observed that one form of the iRV2 search function is the same as entering this in Google:

<search term> site:irv2.com

For example, to find articles on TPMSes, enter the following in Google:

"TPMS" site:irv2.com

A similar search for Blue Ox Patriot braking system posts would be:

"Blue Ox" "Patriot" site irv2.com

Google allows you to then filter by date (using the "Search Tools" selection), so if you know the post you seek was posted in the last month, you can apply that filter.

The format of this Google search works for other Web sites, too, for example:

"Roadmaster" "brake" "relay" site:etrailer.com

I've never been able to do a successful search either. Always get a lot of unrelated stuff

Don't use the Search with the drop down from the toolbar, use the Google search & have the iRV2.com button checked.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

If you're recommending not to use the Search in the drop down toolbar, why is it there? That's what a person would use if it's there.

It's a weakness of the software used for the iRV2 fora.

As far as I can tell, the problem with the basic and advanced tool (both accessed by the drop down menu) is the "Search by Keyword" function.

1) It appears to consider signature lines as part as the post text. If you put "Blue Ox" in the search box, you'll get every post/thread where someone's signature contains "Blue Ox"- not helpful

2) This may be incorrect, but It appears that if you put in a search phrase (e.g., "Blue Ox") you get all posts that contain "Blue" OR "Ox." That means the search returns a lot of irrelevant posts. You can force an AND search by using semicolons:

Blue; Ox

The software also "tags" threads, and one can search on tags. It appears to assign tags by pulling certain terms out of the original post. Unhappily, there is no way of knowing what tags are assigned to threads until you find them (the tags are usually listed near the bottom of the thread), so using the tags for a search is very hit and miss.

The folks who developed and support the iRV2 software (NOTE: NOT the forum moderators- they are innocent bystanders, and hard-working innocent bystanders at that!) would have to modify the drop down search feature to make it work better.

As noted above, the Google search and the Advanced Search work much better than the basic search.

As you found, the app for phones is limited. That's why you couldn't find the feature for which you were looking. If you want use of the site's full amenities, you'll need to access it with another device.
