Seat Belt Clarification
Was attending an in the park concert tonight featuring the Ohio State Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps and had the oppurtunity to ask a couple of the officers what the law is for wearing seat belts in Motorhomes?
Front seat passengers only are required by law - just like trucks. (Although they strongly advise to use any and all seatbelts available) They also stated that most other states have similar laws.
Sorry if this is repetitive but it cleared it up for me.

Did the subject of shoulder belts come up? I'm pretty sure only lap belts are required, but confirmation would be good.

I think in Indiana all passengers must be belted.

Got me thinking if Ohio was standard or different so I pulled this information from Florida DVM.
Summary of Mandatory Seat Belt Laws
Seat belt laws apply to all cars, pickup trucks, and vans operated on Florida roads.
All passengers in the front seat must wear a seat belt.
All passengers under 18 must wear a seat belt

Federal law requires that there be a seat belt in every designated passenger position, so if your coach claims to accommodate for use 6 people, it must have 6 belts installed. But individual state laws determine which passengers must actually be wearing a seat belt when under way. And the laws for passenger cars may or may not apply to large vehicle, so check the laws of the state you are in. And like speed limits, seat belt laws are not reciprocal - you must obey the law of the state your are currently in, not just your home state laws.

There is one and only one law about seat belts that we should consider in my opinion.
The law that says if you are wearing your belts properly, your odds of walking away from a crash are EIGHT TIMES greater than those of someone in the same vehicle not belted in.
EIGHT TIMES
What this fails to take into account is the accident that never happens because the driver was properly belted in and kept his vehicle under control under trying conditions.
EIGHT TIMES
THe penality for violation is death or serious injury
EIGHT TIMES
