Selling Used Tires
I'm going to replace the tires on my coach next spring (275/80/22.5G). Somewhere I read that trucking companies might be interested in purchasing my used tires (date code of late 2011, but only 17k miles) for use on trailers. I thought this might be a way to help reduce the cost of the new tire purchase. Anyone had experience doing this? If so, who/how did you contact potential buyers?

I just saw a thread on another forum last night, and they mentioned that they
sold their tires on Craig's List. Haven't done that personally, but we'll be in the same situation soon. Will be following this.

A good honest Tire dealer will give you a credit towards your new tires, for your old tires. If they aren't damaged. Sometimes you have to ask, they don't always offer. If you live in the Northwest try Les Schwab, except for a damaged Tire they've always given me a credit for my old tires.

Les Schwab in Junction City didn't ask and neither did I when I got 4 315/80's and 4 365/70's late last year.

I regularly sell used but perfectly functional tires via Carigslist. Even sold the five 'China Bombs' from our 5er to a farmer for field use - and he was happy to get them a the 200 buck price as four looked like new at less then 3000 miles plus a never used spare. The LT 'E' take offs from the TV also were sold reasonably.

It's been several years, but Les Schwab in Missoula, MT gave me credit towards the new tires for my old ones. I don't remember if I asked or they offer. I know they gave me credit on some car tires that were still in good shape, that I changed out early because we were going on a long trip during the winter. They offered that time, I wasn't expecting to get anything so it was a plus. Even at a chain store the manager makes the difference.

I'm convinced you can sell anything on Craigslist.

Tire size has a lot to do with used tire resale values---unfortunately, a popular RV tire size like the 295 80R 22.5 don't have much of a market in the commercial world. To the contrary--I recently sold two 11r 22.5 tires, 6 years old, near perfect condition, to a local gravel hauler [for trailer tires] [craigslist] for $125 each. He was glad to get them at that price, and I was glad to sell them.....

I have sold three sets of our old tires via Craigslist. They usually sell pretty quick - I get them at the tire shop in my pickup and don't take them out of the truck. $50-$100 each, condition depending. Truckers want them for trailers, etc.
