Service Manuals

Wondering if anyone publishes "Clinton style" service manuals for RVs? I've got ever owners manual for ever system on my 1999 Winnebago Chieftain 36L but they have almost nothing on service and repair.

I've never seen one. I think the relatively low number of RV owners and far too many variations makes it too expensive to sell. Closest thing appears to be subsets .... electrical/plumbing/etc.

Thanks. I can see that. Even within a single manufacturer there are so many variants that wouldn't be practical.

Chilton just re-prints or improves upon manufacturer-published information and there is no manufacturer service manual for any motorhome that I am aware of. There are some chassis manuals, though, and I have seen the RV chassis covered in some of them. Examples include the old Chevy P30 chassis manuals (some can be found in pdf form online for free) and the Ford F53 motorhome chassis manual. Freightliner Custom Chassis has a Chassis Maintenance Manual for their RV chassis too.

But there simply isn't enough sales volume (user demand) to get a Chilton-style manual produced. They would need to sell them in the tens of thousands to hope to break even on the production costs. Especially since they would have to develop a lot of the info and photos from scratch.

The closest thing like Chilton's that I've run across is the pretty good "Ten Minute Tech" series. They give a pretty darn good "overview" of the various systems, most common variations and insight on operation, troubleshooting and repair:

RV bookstore - the world's largest online RV bookstore

The RVBookstore is my go-to site for any "informative" type books pertaining to RVing. If they don't have it, it probably isn't available.

The only manuals you need are for the chassis of your MH and the manuals on each pieces of equipment. If you are having problems findind a manual for your chassis take the VIN and hit the dealers. One of them will have that number in their database.
