Setting a new blog
We are getting ready for RV trip of a life time, a trip to Alaska. I was thinking of setting up a new blog to share our experience with friends and family as we are traveling thru US and Canada. I have been googling and I find so much info out there, don't know where to start from. I would appreciate if you share your experience on creating a new blog site

Setting a new blog
We are also heading to Alaska from our home in Florida this summer and will be using our blog to keep track of it. I use Blogspot. It's very easy to set up a blog, add to it with text, pictures and videos and it's free. The hardest part is finding the time when traveling to update it regularly. LOL

Another approach is to just create a new Facebook page, and you control who has access, so everyone in the world doesn't know you are gone.

I created a website using WIX to journal our stuff. It gives me more control over the organization and presentation of content than the typical "freebie" blog account does. I've got a "members only" section that requires a password to access - which is where I keep future schedules, a message board for conversations with family members, etc. It's not free ... but in the big scheme of things ... it's a relatively inexpensive hobby to keep it up.

We used Wordpress to set ours up, see the link in my sig. Free and easy to use, my wife and I both post to it. There are lots of templates available so you can make it your own. I'm happy with it.

I started one on Blogger and it is pretty simple to set up and many templates to choose from. You can set the dates of your posts which allows me to post about past trips. I elected to keep it about the places where we visited as opposed about who we are and us personally. Blogger is a Google product and you can use the Google/YouTube logon to create it. As all my past (and future) pictures are sorted by date I pick the best 4 to 8 pictures of the day and talk about what we saw and did. I plan to do the same going forward on during my travels. You also can choose any name you want (unless it is taken) for your blog.

I use Squarespace.com, primarily because their templates are very photo gallery friendly. Link is in my sig. Its very easy to set up, they have a trial period and getting your own personal domain name for your blog is cheap and easy to do thru Squarespace as well.

I did an Alaska blog in 2011 using Wordpress. I created a sub site on my airplane site and put the Alaska trip on it.. Wordpress was just starting to emerge then, was somewhat basic, but worked great. Today, the majority of web sites are written on the Wordpress platform and its evolved into a very powerful platform.
I prefer having my own web site to document these type of things over forums or Facebook. When using forums or Facebook, you're at the mercy of their servers and moderators and you have no control over your document once its been authored.
With my own web site, I have total control, I can edit, add, delete, add photos, etc, etc, etc.
This is a link to my Alaska site that I wrote in 2011:
Alaska | Alaska Trip Log
I build / maintain many web sites on Wordpress. I built two site for my MHs. These are really great places to document my MH, AND, they greatly increase the value of the MH when I sell it, because everything I've done to it is documented.
2001 Coachmen Mirada 300QB | 2001 Ford F53 6.8L V10
1999 Southwind 35S – Southwind by Fleetwood
And a web site (in Wordpress) that I host and maintain for a local Veterans group that I belong to:
Christ Dunberger Post 537 » AMERICAN LEGION
..
As you may see, Wordpress has come a long way and is a very simple, but powerful tool for having a web presence.

I recently started a blog just to keep friends and family up to date on our activities. I also wanted a site to keep travel information for future reference. I had tried a paper journal, but that did t work well. I used a web hosting site (bluehost) that well integrated with Wordpress. I haven't experimented much with more sophisticated Wordpress style and formats since I just want a simple log of things going on. Works great and the cost isn't that much. I keep intending on setting up,email and such, but I just hasn't done it.
