Shop Elkhart

Has anyone tried visiting the Elkhart area to look at motor homes? We will be over that way in a month or two. That got me thinking it might be a chance to see more inventory than we can find at the local dealers.

I second doing a factory tour. We've been to Elkhart several times & have toured these mfr's in the area:
Newmar
Forest River

I want to check out Thor when we're at the iRV2 Rally come Sept.

It really helps to see how their built to know what you're looking at when kicking the tires at a dealership.

No, not really. There are no demo units at the factory, and the only inventory are the units already completed that are waiting for transport to the dealers. If you're working with one of the factory reps on specials or selections for a new coach, they MIGHT be able to show you one of the completed units. But you would have to arrange that ahead of time. They can't do it as part of the tour.

A high volume dealer is likely to have more different models to show than the factory.

Even if you can't see lots of inventory, the factory tours are a must see before purchasing. the construction process is fascinating.

The factories don't have models for viewing, other than the ones on the production line.

If you're wanting to see a specific make/model of motorhome, go to the mfr website & do a dealer search for the Elkhart area. That way you'll narrow down where to go & save a lot of running around to different dealers that may not have what you're looking for.

Re: factory tours . We have found that if the tour is not busy , the tour guide will sometimes show you a completed coach . Just one though and not of your choice. Additional places to visit would be Entegra in Middlrbury and Fleetwood in Decatur.
