Through the kindness and generosity of the Tiffin Allegro Club's Rally here in Myrtle Beach, SC I came to have dinner with some very nice people.

One couple just purchased a 42 foot 2006 full paint Tiffin Allegro Bus and what they told me was an eye opener.

Early on when they knew what they wanted, they put together a list of options for their "Bus" in a "Request for Bid". On the last line what she wrote was you can choose to bid or not but the lowest bidder gets the sale.

These folks sent out about 15 or so letters and they received 10 back from those dealerships that chose to bid.

The price gap was amazing. Between the highest bidder and the lowest bidder the price difference was $60,000. The low bidder went to an outfit in Memphis, TN.

You have the power at this point. Make your dealership earn your business and don't buy or fall in love with the first thing you see.

Not a bad approach.

We're seeing more and more business's beginning to use similiar approaches. Some are even using the FreeMarkets approach of running either open or close reverse auctions. The purchasor has the power.

The only concern I'd have is I wonder if the folks end up buying out of state or perhaps several states away, what kind of service (warranty or otherwise) will they get from any of the local dealers who wern't the "lowest bidder"

That is an excellent idea. We bought before we discovered all the RV sites available online and could have made wiser decisions had we had a couple of years exposure to this forum.
Good job
