should I buy a tiffin over any other coach?

about to buy a Tiffin allegro bay 2005 dbl, for 40 grand. What's your thoughts on this coach?

Tiffin or Newmar would be my top choices in that age / price range. Quality and servucecsupport. Service records are king in buying a used coach, IMHO. Allocate $5-10k to bring all services current, tires, batteries, fixes, etc.

It's customer service where Tiffin excels, even on older models. Not clear their coaches are any better than several others. I'm not bashing Tiffin in any way, though.


For any older coach, condition is the dominant factor (and service records go a long way toward validating that). Some items are easily remedied with money, e.g. tires and batteries, but some forms of abuse go deep.

You didn't mention which chassis the coach is on? Is it on a Workhorse or Ford? Workhorse had a recall on the brakes you want to make sure was taken care of. If you can get the VIN# and post it on here someone will be able to tell you if the recalls have been done. Check the Tiffin RV Network for more information from owners of Tiffins.

I’m a Tiffin owner (2010 Phaeton 40QTH), diesel pusher, and very happy with my purchase. I listened to much of the advice on this site, in particular that routine care is costly:
- six tires = $3,400 and I’m told that was a steal
- oil change $480
- wiper blades $30 each

There are other fine coaches and the key seems to be how well they were maintained. I’ve learned that if you must scrimp for dimes and quarters an RV may not be a good “investment”. If you want to see the country, meet wonderful people, have a new sense of freedom, then this is a good lifestyle.

My one, and only caution (personal one and this will not be a big thing for many), is that I’ve found gas rigs to be too noisy for my tastes. I like to talk with my wife, friends, even the dogs, and it seems I’m just yelling. Take that with a lump of salt in that I’ve only driven one gas rig and others have told me you can add sound deadening mat material that will quiet things considerably. And then, maybe I just need to shut up and look at the scenery.

another good choice

we bought a country coach and have had great service. if i have an issue i have called them , they said "we will look up your coach and call you back" and they do!!! they kept all paper work on the coaches built. i called one day and the tech said " lay down look under dash put hand up move to left and up some more. he literaly directed to the spot the switch was located. very impressive.

Thank you guys, that really encourages me to get to moving. We picked the unit up today...it's a tiffin allegro db seems to be well taken care of, so I plan to put a little money into it and hit the road in July. Ready to roll. Oh, and it's a workhorse chassis 37ft

Take a few weekend trips prior to any major journey on any RV that is new to you. Nothing better than familiarizing with the rig.

How long have you had your allegro, and what don't you like about it? Does yours do much swaying, and is it a w22 workhorse?

We have had our 2006 Allegro Open Road 35TSA for 12 years now. It is on the Workhorse W22 chassis. It doesn't sway and it drives good. I did install a Blue Ox Safety Plus steering shock just for added protection for blowouts. Knock on wood it has only required the normal maintenance. We have no plans on trading it in on a new one.
