We are planning on going somewhere warm this winter for several months. Having difficulty figuring out if we should tow our golf cart on a trailer or tow our full-size pickup. Originally we thought we'd load the golf cart onto the truck bed so we could take both, but now we are thinking that will be too difficult for us (both retired).

if we just take the truck, are we likely to regret not having our golf cart? If we just take the golf cart, are we likely to regret not having our truck?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd take both. Golf carts are really handy for buzzing around the resort (especially the larger ones) and the truck is necessary when you need to go out for groceries, movies, etc.

Where you go will dictate which vehicle is the best . . . if you don't golf or if there is no golf course available or if the park really isn't a golf cart sort of place, then the pickup is the obvious choice. Besides, you're gonna have to at least make a grocery store run now and then, right?

We were driving east on I-10 in Novemebr, coming home from Phoenix the week before the Nascar race. We must have passed 50 rigs towing a pickup with a golf cart in the bed. Looked like a good way to have the best of both worlds, and made me start thinking.

I would recommend you find a place to go to, before worrying about what to take. Many places are booked solid in Fl. Maybe out in Az you can find room. Once you find the campground (or RV resort), ask those that have been going there what they recommend. Good luck and enjoy!

Make loading the Golf Cart on the truck easier so that you can take both.

We have an small electric winch mounted in the front of the truck bed, and a small set of ramps.

Winch the cart both on and off. Controlled, safe, and very easy.

If a fat, disabled, old man like me can do it, so can you.

Depends on where you decide to go, but I wouldn't like to be without a car/truck.

What happens when you go shopping or when you want to go and have a bite to eat (just to mention 2 things most people will do)? Can you take your golf cart to these places?

Tow the truck, load the golf cart in back. You'll want the truck because few towns have adapted laws that allow travel to the stores on city streets or sidewalks by golf carts; you'll need the truck to shop.

Check the resort out WRT needing a golf cart. How big is it and how far to the club houses for activities. Granted, it doesn't hurt to get the exercise walking or riding a bike, but it does rain, and there are usually a few cold days (unless you're going to Key West). Then you must keep up with the Jones' to since others will be tooling around in their carts

One thing I found...you can rent one in most places, but expect significant cost ($150/month minimum in FL).

My vote:
Truck (or any toad really) mandatory. Golf cart optional.

If at all possible take both...If you can't, you have got to have the truck if your going to be gone for any length of time...

Take both if you can. If due to physical limitations you can't load your cart by yourself consider this. On the day before you leave call a wrecker service. Ask them to send a flatbed towtruck. When the guy shows up explain the situation and drive the cart on the tipped flatbed. Back pickup up to wrecker and drive cart on. Cost will be about $50 and take 10 mins. Do the same on your destination. I did it once for an auto I put in the back of a moving truck. This of course won't work well if you are frequently unloading the cart but would be cheaper than renting a cart.
