Sight Impaired

My wife has been diagnosed with AMD in both eyes. Wet and dry. We full time and would like to know if anybody else has experience in this area. She is my co-pilot and we are not ready to come off the road.

Hi - I don't have much information, but can share what happened with my mother.
She had wet AMD and received minocycline injections. Just FYI - she reported no pain with the procedure.
The drug worked and arrested the progression. She did continue to use prescription eye drops but kept her vision fine until she passed away some years later (unrelated to eyes).
It's really scary when messing around with eyes and vision, but I'm happy to report that the treatment was not painful and totally successful.
I'm not sure if this helps, but thought I could at least send positive thoughts your way :-)

There is more than 1 form of Macular degeneration other than wet and dry.
Treatment and the course of the disease depend on the type.

None of them are reversible you can only hope to slow progression.
Age relate MD is one of the few diseases that responds to dietary and vitamin therapy in a miraculous way. Won't cure it but in many cases slows the progression dramatically.

Did your Opthalmologist not discuss this with you?

You might also want to seek out an Opthalmologist that specializes in AMD especially in a university setting.

There are currently some stem cell trials in Europe that show promise for one day restoring vision but they will not be available to the general public for 10-25 years.

Depending on how advanced she is and how long it has ben going on it can be slowed down.

Don't waste any time.
