Sign of Economy???

In planning trips, I'm finding that the RV resorts/parks/campgrounds are requesting full payment for the time of your stay versus the usual first night deposit. I've even encountered one park that wants more in a deposit than the stay would cost. Many of these payments are non-refundable too.

Is this a sign of the economy? If so, I bet I'm not the only one balking at this.

I would not stay in a park that requested that. Walmart here I come. Would you pay a hotel in the same manner? I never have, nor have I been asked to do so.

Hmmm..... maybe it's because we almost always travel without reservations but I sure haven't run into this... even on holiday weekends. We were on the central California coast this past month and for Labor Day weekend thought we should make reservations a few days ahead of time for 4 nights. We stayed at Flying Flags in Buelton which is one of the premier family spots for miles around and all they required was a non-refundable $75 deposit.

Well, here is another new one for me. Called and reserved a spot in New Orleans for next month. They said they take a small deposit to reserve the spot. Looked at my credit card and was charged the full price for the week. Called and was told "That's our new policy and no refunds" Had they told me that I would not have booked. I could dispute the charge on the credit card but what a mess it could turn out to be.

I won't book more then 1 day at a time now that school's back in session. All the family vacationers are off the road and most parks are less then 1/2 full.
Thanks for the tip though, it's good to know about the little tricks they can play on you.

I’D DISPUTE THOSE CHARGES !!!! ... New Orleans is a Tourist town and treating visitors that way is totally UNACCEPTABLE !!! I know , I live in N.O.

I certainly would have disputed it!

I look at it this way, the CG is the one we want to stay at and we do plan to go. If I dispute the charge then we lose our reservation and still get charged something and then we have to find another CG too. I guess if something comes up and we can't go I'd dispute it then but it really bothers me they pulled this on us.
