Sink stopper needed

I need a Duracraft 30250SS sink stopper. Unfortunately, the only place I've found them so far is on amazon.com, at the ridiculous price of almost $32!!! This is a cheap little stainless, rubber, and plastic stopper similar to those sold at Wal-Mart for less than $5. Unfortunately, I haven't found a cheapie that works in our sinks.

I'm hoping that someone here might have replaced or be replacing a sink that has these stoppers and would be willing to sell one or two to me. Our FW is older, so I don't too much care about condition as long as the stopper works.

I've attached the photo and here's a link to the amazon.com listing: http://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Sink-S...782511&sr=1-26

Thanks,

liz

Lowe's and Home Depot have a bigger selection than Walmart. Maybe they have one that will fit.

I didn't care for the stopper that came with our rv, I used a rubber stopper instead, probably from wallie world. I'll check the dims on ours. We are in the process of replacing the sink and countertop now.

Paz,

I THINK we looked at Home Depot and/or Lowe's, but I can't swear to it. We practically lived on both those stores during our renovation, but I've forgotten whether we checked both those places. I may have to make a visit to both and see, just in case we didn't check there.

Calico,

A rubber stopper would work, since I could just use it on the rinsing side. I like the idea of something with a strainer, just in case, but beggars can't be choosers. If you happen to have the right-sized stopper/strainer, I'll take 'em and happily pay.

Liz, if all else fails, you can replace the whole basket-drain assembly in the bottom of the sink. Of course, if you have 2 sinks and want them to match, you'll have to replace both sides. It's more work and expense, but if you install a more standard design, you will be able to replace the baskets more easily in the future.

Liz, sorry, don't think mine will work. They only measure 1.5" across. They are so small they look like toy strainers! Seems like I've seen little screens that fit into the 'hole', those might work in addition to the rubber stoppers. I'd have a hard time paying the Amazon prices!! Ann

Ann,

Thanks for checking. Those ARE tiny strainers! The amazon-listed strainers are now half that ridiculous price. Still ridiculous, but I may buy one and be done with it. My time and the cost of gas to go to Lowe's and Home Depot are probably worth paying $15-$16 for one and having it shipped to my house.

Paz,

I don't think that replacing the basket-drain assembly (or assemblies) is in the cards any time soon . We still have a ton of work to do on the place where the FW "lives." That's a good suggestion, though, and definitely something to consider at some point. For now, $15 for a basket, while ridiculous, is still cheaper than replacing parts.

That is a very common design.

You can also get a "Universal" this is nothign more than a soft synthetic rubber circle, it sits atop the drain and completly covers it, One size fits all. Any kitchen department, Wall Mart, K-Mart, Big Lots, Your local super market, Many dolllar stores, and the ever popular ________ (Fill in the blank) .

wa8yxm,

I want something with a strainer basket, so the circle thingie isn't quite it. It's a common design, sort of, but not exactly. I got a couple of different ones that fit the hole but didn't keep the water in. The stopper was the wrong size or the wrong depth or there wasn't a post so it was difficult to switch between open and closed.

Price dropped by half on amazon.com so I bit the bullet. By the time I took time to go to Lowe's and Home Depot to see if they had them, not to mention the cost of gas, I'm better off just having one delivered to my door.

As an interim solution (we have those stupid tiny strainers, too) cut a circle from a green scrubbie pad and set it down in the drain.

It will let water drain through and catch the food particles. Pick it out after draining the sink and whap it on the side of the trashcan to clean it.

Seriously, whoever thought those idiotic doll-house things were a reasonable design??!!

sink stopper

It is better to buy the whole strainer, that include the new stopper. Try a "Spin n grin.
