Slide Topper Awning Replacement.

When it comes time to replace the fabric on the slide toppers, is the hardware also replaced or just the fabric?

If you are a DIY individual, visit Aero-Rv.com - Aerolite Ultra Lite RV Travel Trailer and Expandable Hybrid Campers,
click "tents-awnings", then download the instructions for replacing the fabric. Be advised_ not following instructions may lead to a broken wrist from spring tension.
Some folks use shade fabric instead of waterproof material. This prevents water ponding, wind flapping, etc., while keeping leaves and large debris off the slide roof. I prefer the waterproof material.

We just "repaired" two of ours. No hardware is replaced (unless broken).
Most slide topper material is approx. 48" wide. With our smaller slides going out only 18" there was lots of material that had never been unrolled nor seen the light of day. We removed the material (see instruction location above) and repaired (patched) the 4"-6" rip. Now the good part..... Turned the material around with the patch in the "never to be unrolled portion". Looks new! You'll also have to switch the two round plastic "dowels" as the slots are different sizes. TWO person job - one on either end to unroll the fabric completely.
First one took an hour - - second took 30 minutes.

Their web site describes the material as thicker than OEM. Did you find this to be true?

Are you still pleased with the material?

Thanks Mark, I have been searching for a site like that and couldn't find one. That looks like just the ticket and stronger material too.

I bought the material for my 144 inch topper from

http://www.rv-motorhome-answers.com/rv-slide-out-topper.html

and the material is thicker than the A&E stuff that was on there. My wife and I did the install ourselves and it went really well. Took about an hour and Ken got the fit perfect. I know the material was thicker because I had to move the stop when all was said and done.

Highly Recommended

Dick

It is not that extreme and works well.

Replacing the fabric is a DIY job but does require some help in the form of extra hands. Certainly having a couple friends on ladders makes sliding the material in the rail much easier.
