Slide topper came out of track (time sensitive 7/19/19)

Hi all,

The topper on my living room slide has come out of its track by about 18 inches while on a trip.

We are going home tomorrow and coach is booked in to get both toppers replaced next week.

Wind forecast is 10mph this afternoon and 5mph overnight.

I told my wife the slide needs to come in now as if comes off any more I may need to cut the topper off. My wife thinks I am over cautious and wants to leave it out until morning.

Coach is fully usable except for TV when the slide is in.

What do folk think?

Thanks,

Edit: called Winnebago and they said given the forecast to keep it out until morning. We will keep an eye on it and bring the slide in if needs be.

Just remove it. It is pretty easy for one person and can be done from a ladder or the top of the slide. Be careful of the roller loosing tension. It isn't tight like a garage door but could break something internally if it freespins. It won't hurt a thing to have the slide out without it just don't roll any acorns up into the slide seals.

Thanks Spdracr,

I called Winnebago and they said to just leave it until the morning given the forecast. I will keep an eye on it and bring the slide in if needs be, my wife has agreed to this.

And if it is flapping in the wind while traveling take the time to tape it to the MH so it does not tear.

If I'm understanding your situation correctly that ~18" of the topper has come out of the track on the coach. Personally I wouldn't try to retract the slide with that loose fabric on top of the slide as it could get jammed in the opening.

Since you state you're having it replaced when you get home, I would cut away at least the loose portion of the fabric.

Or, if you have a ladder, just grab the fabric and pull it back where it belongs. It should slide in as easily as it came out.

Just a thought.

Thanks all,

We got the slide in and do not see flappy material. I will drive a mile or two and see how it looks.
