Slide topper weathershield

i have the carefree slide toppers that retract into a metal weatheshield/garage on each of my slides. there looks to be alot of debris visible through the slot. leaves and pine needles mostly. how do you get this stuff out?

Ours are Carefree so it should basically work the same. On both the end caps of the topper you will see two screw slots and the top pivot point screw. You loosen the top screw and the lowest point screw (not the middle slot) using an allen wrench (I can't remember the exact size). Move them out until they clear the mechanism but not all the way out. You may also have a silver colored small slide bar in the middle of the slide topper if it is a long one which must be moved to the left to release. When you do this, raise the outside cover upward on the loosened top pivot and you will have access to clean out the mess. After cleaning reverse the procedure by closing the cover and slide bar in the middle first, then tighten the two screws on either end.
