USPS only allows a 30 day hold on mail. Either have a friend or relative clean out your mailbox and forward important mail to you or hire a service to do the same.

Sometimes the local post office will make an exception to that rule. We took a 2-month trip out west in 2012 and they held our mail the entire time.

You can rent a box at a mail forwarding service like The UPS Store and do a TEMPORARY forward to the PMB number (private mail box) and have them send it to where ever you are when you wish.
Note the temporary mail forward not a permanent mail forward. The temporary is good for six months and when you get home you can cancel it.

The U.S. Postal Service will also do temporary holds of longer than 30 days. Or have a friend/neighbor/relative collect your mail from your box and when you're somewhere for 4-5 days have them send it to your RV park (get permission first) or to a 'small' local post office c/o General Delivery. Ask them to only send you important-looking stuff. Leave some Priority large envelopes with them to do this. We did this while full-timing for 16+ years by requesting our mail be sent to us from our mail forwarding service to General Delivery. It works - never had a problem. Just be sure to pick a small P.O. near your campground. You'll have problems if you choose a big city P.O.

It took some time to do but we now have everything done on line. We experimented last summer for 6 months and while gone we had neighbors collect our "JUNK" mail and except for one piece of mail from our county for "Jury Duty" every single piece of mail was "JUNK"
So now when we leave we instruct the neighbor to feel free to trash everything in our mail box.
