Snowbirds & FT.. What Are The Top 5 Things To Consider At A Park

Curious how many folks hit the road and pick a destination without any solid plan of where to stay or just travel every few weeks to another location?

If you pre-plan your destination, What are the Top 5 things one should consider as a MUST.

I am thinking. Cleanliness, Safety, Rates, Size of Lots, Activities available,
Since we are making this move soon our pre-planning stage has begun.

Any thing else we should be considering?

As a snowbird I pre-plan nothing when in route. As for longer stay, say a week or more. I i google street views and a couple of review sites. After that I think it's a crap shoot. Been snowbirding long enough to know what areas we like and have seen a lot of rv parks in those areas so we have a big advantige on newbies. If a newbie, don't tie yourself down for long term stays until you have seen the park. Most areas have choices for parks. Give 'em all a look see.

Reviews of the park by previous users, services (cable, garbage pickup, pool, etc) are important, location to areas you wish to visit, enough open sky to ensure satellite will work if cable is lousy, I guess the last would be security of the park, where is it located, in the boonies are close to outside services, does it have night time gates, etc.

campgroundreviews.com and google earth are our main tools.

Last year, we knew the park we were going to in Prescott from friends in the area. We booked it about a week ahead.

From Prescott, after scanning reviews, we scouted the Phoenix valley area and Casa Grande. We booked the park in November about 2 weeks early and stayed in Casa Grande 3 months.

While in Casa Grande last year we scouted Tucson and are there now. We booked it about 2 weeks early.

We go to Yuma in December for 2 months. We selected that park from good reviews and know folks that liked it. We booked it 2.5 months early; gets into the busy/high demand time period. We have ended up with the locations, sites, amenities, and rates we wanted. Everyone has different needs.

Away from winter, we rarely plan more than a day or two ahead, because we dont know where we will not hurry to next.

Happy trails.

As they say
1. Location
2. location
3. location
4. Things to do.
5. Cleanliness.
After the 5 above price is soon to follow, as is size of lots and the location within the park of the lot. Whoops, there is the location thing again!

For us...
1) Sense of community with activities and groups, lots of choices.
2) Location that is warm, close to shopping and an occasional restaurant (with choices) and a movie
3) Friendly, not snobbish, e.g. doesn't have to be a park filled with Class As
4) Location...South of 30 degrees North
5) Modest, not overwhelming price...value for the $s

We look for location - close enough to stores and a town so we don't have to spend an afternoon just running for bread and milk or an hour just to get to the nearest restaurant. And we don't want to be near RR tracks or a noisy busy highway. Also must have wifi signal from Verizon.

Sites - we want them roomy and with at least a few trees for shade. We really dislike those Resorts that look like parking lots with no picnic tables and barely enough space to let out the awning.

A nice clubhouse - with activities for the people of the Park.

Price - good value for what the place charges and of course full hookups.

Cleanliness - no dogs running loose pooping all over the place. Clean showers and clubhouse and laundry room. No trashy looking RVs with people living in them, surrounded by broken toys and cars up on blocks.

Beware of parks on the internet that do not have pictures posted. Experience has taught us that we probably would not be comfortable. We use allstay app and find it to be easy to use, and reasonably accurate.
