You can request to be removed from their promotional mailings. Any that do come now, (and they've been dramatically reduced) if they provide a postage paid envelope I fold it up and send it back, along with any other junk mail on hand at the time.
Back in college days I used to tie bricks to the postage paid envelopes and send them along. We had lots of construction sites around campus, I personally think I reduced the rubble by a truck load or two!
