When I was working in Illinois and had to commute from N. WI on Sunday nite I had an old vehicle start tailgating me. I tried speeding up, I tried slowing down, nothing worked. This was on the Interstate so no place to stop. When we pulled into the toll booths near Rockford, I got out of the car, opened the trunk, took out my 12 gauge pump(in its soft sleeve) and a box of shells. The tailgater smashed thru the toll gate and disappeared. Never saw him again.

Gone through the same thing before, N.Y. Maryland, Deleware, Washington, nothing unusual about idiots that are allowed to drive cars.

If he is talking on his cell phone as he is driving, and you have a co-pilot, have same (The co-pilot) do some talking on his or her cell phone.. The phone number to call in the United States is 9-1-1.. Tell them where, and describe the car (License 1 D 10 T by any chance?)

and let them get the jerk out of your way.. In many states, They will do it, for free (You don't even rack up air time minutes, that last is Federal) Ok, Well, IN many states there is a fee.. but HE gets to pay it, not you (Very evil grin)

Be nice to the person who answers though.. I mean. it used to be me.

Won't work in Florida; tried to pass a law, didn't go through; so you can talk on your cell in your car while driveing in this state all you want.
not sure about texting but you can most likley do that to.

A recent road rage death in the Seattle area has gotten a lot of airtime this week. The suspect had a blood alcohol level 3 times the legal limit and is reported to have gotten out of his vehicle after the crash and beat on his chest gorilla style.

I will admit not wanting to get trapped behind any RV or truck when I drove a car so I can understand someone trying to avoid us. When I drive my MH I try to let cars get ahead of me, especially before a merge to one lane situation. I prefer not to have my engine go into the high rpm zone. Other drivers should not have to be slowed by my driving choices.

Avoiding road rage is in our hands. Life is too short anyway. You never know if that idiot driver is impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a fight with the spouse. The only
behavior we can control is our own.

Other things to think about and watch for are other vehicles trying to block you. A few years ago in Los Angeles, Ca there was a group of insurance frauds who worked in groups of three. Once they picked a victim one vehicle gets in front the other two get on your side to prevent the victim from moving over than the lead auto would hit their brakes. Lead vehicle had brought along all the witnesses the needed guess who paid. I think the way the country is headed this stuff is going to reappear (if it ever left). Rember motorhome owners have all the money.

Since I have a reservation at the poor house, you all want to watch for a brown jeep wrangler acting stupid.

I should point out it works both ways.. I was driving (in a car) to my brother's house and had a Winnebago do that same thing to me.

The fact is some drivers,, Have their head up their exhaust pipe.

(Think on it)

I think from all the posts, we've had similar experiences. I just don't get why people on the interstates, especially, don't use their cruise control. That would eliminate the yo-yo'ing speeds. At least the OP did the correct thing.

I started to post this on the Alaska tread, but it took a month to 'cool' down a bit...still upsetting - not really at THAT happen, but the reasoning behind the incidents. It's very hard to understand.

We were traveling from between Watson Lake and Whitehorse, UT when we had a small pickup truck towing a small, empty trailer (heading in the opposite direction) swing into our lane in a gravel break on the road. I moved over more to the right of our lane. He swerved more into our lane and then 'whipped' back into his lane throwing rocks and gravel all over us. No damaged done except to our nerves. Just about a half hour later, another truck w/empty trailer did the same thing at a gravel break in the road...this time he was successful. We got a half dollar sized stone chip/break on the passenger side of the RV's windshield. There is NO DOUBT these two incidents were blatant road vandalism and the fact that both were towing small, empty trailers are too similar and purposeful to be coincidental. I guess some people are really tired of, or dislike having RV's on their roads.

On the 23nd of this month, we were on the Tok Cutoff heading to Tok when we were in a long stretch of road maintenance. We saw a semi-truck(not the gravel haulers) coming down the road in the opposite direction. With all the gravel, I quickly pulled over and stopped (completely) to let this guy pass without too much gravel being slung around. The truck was coming down a small grade and judging by the exhaust smoke, he started pouring the 'coals' to it and was gaining speed. He then came three quarters into our lane and then whipped it back into his lane missing us by not more than three feet. The gravel, dirt and dust was unbelievable and I couldn't wrap my head around that had just happened. Luckily, no damage. The frustration in me was almost overwhelming...no instant gratification with a call to 911(no coverage in the middle of nowhere)...no NOTHING! I can not think of a time I've been that mad at anyone than I was at that moment...couldn't even cuss!

The thing that bothered me the most about this one is that, da__it, I'm one of the GOOD GUYS! I always pull over on a two lane road, if I see a trucker coming up behind me...even just one, and I don't wait until it's convenient. These guys make their living doing that they do, and I won't be the one that holds them up. I'm on the road for pleasure...they're not, so I pull over...ASAP! I'm just glad I'm not young and stupid...one of us would have gotten hurt...no matter how long it took to chase the [moderator edit] down. Breathing deeply now...exhaling sloooowly.

Sorry for the length and thanks for letting me VENT...it's been too long. Bob

Something I noticed several years ago, driving my Lincoln Mark VIII with an automatic phone system. I just had to push a button on the driver post to answer a call. To make a call I just pushed the button and spoke the words to dial. This was a 2003 Automobile with this technology. So, on the way home from work I'd call DW and ask what she needed from the store, or I'd call a friend and chat. I could be on the phone anywhere from a few minutes to several minutes. In every conversation, when I hung up, I would look around at where I was and the realization would hit me that I had been driving by instinct, and I was not fully aware of my surroundings. I stopped making those type calls, and today I just hand the cell phone to DW. If they need to speak to me I can call them back.

So anytime you see anyone on a cell phone, no matter what type of vehicle they are in, be aware that they have no idea what is going on around them. They are an accident waiting for a place to happen. Be careful.

I always prefer to have the maniacs in front of me- I can't pull over fast enough to let 'em on by.
My favorite thing to see in a situation like that is their taillights going over the horizon.
I once had the satisfaction of seeing my former tailgater/speed demon pulled over by a State Trooper about five miles down the road.
SWEET!
