I agree,, I have 2 friends that Host at a few campgrounds..

Last December.. I was staying at a MB,SC campground.. the tree droppings. leaves,sticks,etc.. took me 2 days to clean up.. but I did not expect the Workers to do it... the mound was over 3 feet high by 10 foot round.

X2....I think the OP posted something that everyone should think about and respect. There are a lot of people who smoke that think it is ok to use the open ground as their trash can. Unfortunately more than one wildfire has been started by a discarded burning cigarette. But everyone should have respect for their fellow campers and leave their site as clean or cleaner than they found it. They should not leave their personal mess for volunteers to clean up, that is not what volunteers are for and it is simply a lack of respect for others, including the volunteers.

Even the lowly house cat cleans up behind itself. Don't expect humans to follow suit. It seems as though so many folks think of only themselves. Let the next guy deal with it.
I have never left a camp site but what it was in at least the same condition as I found it or better. I have tidied up a few because I didn't want to be blamed for being "That Guy".
I have instilled this in my own children and grandchildren as well as anyone who visits us on the site. I would always say, "I want to leave this place the way I would have liked to have found it".
Sorry to see Pigs being characterized like this. They are better than that!

We saw a lot in our three summers of volunteer camp hosting, but two stand-outs are used diapers on the metal BBQ grill (right next to a trash can) and fecal material on the floor and walls in a clean well maintained restroom. In Idaho cleaning that up required the paid park personnel with special training and haz mat suits to do the clean up.

Having worked at a Scout camp and campgrounds, there are different levels of clean up. Some campgrounds just take for granted that it will be clean when the next camper comes in. Not always. Some campgrounds really care and hire workkampers to clean the grounds. We've seen it all. I won't go into what messes they leave in the showers and bathrooms. People today have a different attitude, and it's not good. My DH is a smoker and while we are in a site occasionally a cigarette butt goes into the fire ring. But before we leave he has policed the grounds and cleans up any mess we may have made. Just common courtesy. Every time I walk our dog, I would end up with a hand full of trash to throw away.
I would give the gal at the office the benefit of the doubt tho. Yes, she agreed people were pigs, but since he had already moved to the sight early, the clean up crew hadn't had a chance to clean. I do agree with others, we as a society need to change our ways and start cleaning up after ourselves and not expecting others to do it.

Interesting that I wander into this thread. I recently visited two of my favorite privately-owned RV resorts and on both occasions I inherited spots that were strewn with all kinds of trash ... including an apparent black tank disconnect (if you know what I mean.) Wish I knew the answer but folks are treating campgrounds more and more like they treat each other. And that is with no respect. Like the others here I just grin and bear it as I pick up and properly dispose of the previous visitor's carelessness. And that really grinds my gears (as Peter Griffin would say.) Sorry, but at 72 years of age, I'm still a fan.

It really is sad that some people don't give a thought to leaving a mess for whomever is using the space next, or for someone to clean up after them. I was in the travel business for many years and heard horror stories from hotel owners and managers...so it isn't just campgrounds.

Hotel staff go in, make beds, and clean up room. Campground/ R.V Park staff go in and clean up site!!
I know what your saying, it's rediculous that people leave their garbage laying around, but, we're paying big money for a parking spot. More and more I see campground staff / owners, do nothing more than collect that money !!

I'll toss my 2 cents in here just for the heck of it.

We are work camping this year, DW in the office and I am doing maintenance and site clean up. You would not believe the array of "stuff" people go off and leave at their camp site. Cig butts everywhere, can tabs, bread bag tabs, candy wrappers, water bottles, dog food on the ground because they couldn't be bothered to feed their dog from a dish, dog feces (bags and dump stations are readily available for this), human feces and napkins used to wipe with after (guess they couldn't be bothered to find a bathroom) the list goes on. We have a tent area and spread mulch over the sites to give a softer surface for the tent floor. I've had people drive off with flames 3ft high out of the fire pit surrounded by all that mulch. Not even kidding.

We do our best to clean up before someone moves back in but sometimes folks do get in a hurry and want to occupy earlier. Most are understanding when they notice we didn't clean it yet, others still feel the need to complain.

This is not a slight towards the OP, I get the point he was trying to make. Sadly folks just don't seem to care anymore.

I would bet that those same people hat left the campsite a mess, are the same ones that will complain when they get to their next CG and find the site messy.

I don't understand why people that smoke don't consider their cigarette butts litter! They wouldn't throw paper on the ground but think nothing about flipping their cigarette butts out there!
