Spare tire on class a

Wanting to carry spare on newmar 3933. Also use Atwood level legs to lift wheel to b. changed. Any thoughts or concerns?

I think you will find that most users will tell you to get a good Roadside Emergency Policy. I for one would not even attempt to change a tire on my coach under good conditions never mind on the side of the road. I make sure my tires are properly inflated and in good condition and if I do have a problem, I will call Good Sam Emergency Road Service. Not sure where a spare tire could be mounted.....

I carried a fully mounted spare when we went to Alaska. The one thing I didn't want to worry about was being stranded in the middle of now where without a tire. I have a set of large sockets and breaker bar with extension. The tire weighs ~125lb mounted.

I made a tire carrier that was in my rear hitch since we didn't tow a car. We now tow a Jeep GC so I modified the carrier. The carrier has a hinge and cantilevers down, if the front jack is up and back airbags empty the tire is fairly easy to get off. The carrier doubles as a X-pen carrier for dogs.

Below is a picture, all the material was off the shelf. The tow bar is in a spare 2" receiver I put on to get it out of the way, it normally is in the tow hitch, I use an extension.

as a retired farmer changing tires on heavy trucks and equipment was part of life for me. Our travels have taken us thru some rather desolate parts of the west and cell phone service was an issue. with the aluminum wheels I don't see weight being an issue. Thanks for your comments

When I bought this new RV in 2010 I had a home made bracket similar to the ones installed under the floor of 53 footers, like a 3 branch bracket in which I slided a spare tire in it; the home made bracket is installed and bolted to the two main frame members, just behind the gas tank, towards the back of the RV; never used it yet....

I carry, at a minimum an unmounted spare tire. I am going to get an extra rim and mount it when I get a chance. I too monitor my tire pressure with a TPMS, but that doesn't help you for catastrophic punctures etc. I do have emergency roadside assistance through Good Sam, used it once last year with our old travel trailer, quick, professional service, but I would hate to have to purchase a 22.5" tire after 5:00 pm, on a Sunday evening, just to get on the road again. This way, the service call is free, I would still have to pay for the mounting, but I would be on my way. Unfortunately, a spare tire takes up a lot of room, so I am looking at mounting mine behind the gas tank underneath as well. I'm excited about opening up that storage bay where the unmounted tire currently resides!

Sounds like you have already made up you mind to carry a spare and change it yourself. I'm retired also and can still change a flat tire on my coach. Have you tried a dry run at home changing out a #200+ lb. 22.5 wheel yet?

We have two different tire sizes on our rig and there's no way I'm going to try and carry a 315/80 and a 365/70 22.5 tire/wheel combo. They also take different width and offset wheels.

I will do a dry run not only with changing tire but also with the level legs because have not actually tried that only see how high tires will come off ground when leveling on very uneven pads. I have measured compartment with sliding tray and mounted tire will fit.

would be my option. Using the leveling jacks for changing a tire is iffy. What then-if the jack sinks and one didn't use blocking under the frame?
IMO, I'm better off paying <$100 per year for road service, even if I have to pay a premium price for a new tire. I'd rather have the storage space.

I've used the Atwood jacks on our gas coach to change the tires without any problems. I've heard some of the diesel owners with Atwood jacks have had some problems with the older model jacks.

We full-timed for 16 years, traveled constantly and preferred secondary roads to interstates. We boondocked often deep in the forests and spent a summer in Alaska. We never had tire issues but did replace them by age, not by looks. We never felt uncomfortable traveling without a spare but everyone's confidence is different.

Roadmaster just came out with a holder that mounts too your hitch to carry any tire up too 24in size. And you can still use the hitch for towing...
