Sorry MartySQ, but I can't get near him quick enough to catch him. Like you, I do know folks that don't mind and actually enjoy spiders but I'm not one of them. Don't feel I have a phobia as there are many smaller, different type of spiders in my home and hanging from webs outside. Being confined in a smaller space with this big, hairy creature just makes me uncomfortable...

One of the best pest controls you can have - works without instruction and requires no maintenance. Personally, I have no problems with spiders like your lodger. In fact, we have a ton of Black/Brown Widows here and I leave them be.

Being a lifelong Floridian, I am very familiar with the big ground spiders. Every so often, I find a huge "Giant House Spider" (it's actual name!) that can get more than 3" in leg spread. They are fast and agressive, and seem to like to go high - I often find them on the ceiling.
Either a can of "Spider" spray (much more effective than regular ant or fly spray) or a .22 lead pellet makes short work of them. Small spiders don't 'bug' me if they are out of the way and catching bugs. These Big Guys tend to want to get more intimate - so I do kill them.
My back door of my home doesn't seal as well as it should - likely where they get in. Outside the Wolf Spiders are common, and I'll let them be unless they try to get chummy.
The big Orb Weavers are fascinating. Had one outside my bedroom window one year - I watched her for hours. Interesting the differences in what orb weavers and ground spiders prefer as prey.

I'd rather have a rattlesnake in the house with me that a big spider! I'm scared to death of spiders!

There's NO WAY I would ever sleep in that motorhome with that thing in there!

We spray our house and MH with Bengal Roach Spray about every three months, and it seems to do a good job on roaches AND spiders.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

We had a Boy Scout camp out last weekend, and one of the parents found a pretty good sized orb weaver on his tent. He knocked it off with a tent pole and I got the feeling it was only a matter of time before it got stomped on by one of the boys, so I rescued it. It was big enough that I could feel the weight in the palm of my hand, and it was bright orange and yellow. Put it in a tree and told the kids to give it a break and just watch it, and eventually it went up into the branches. Fascinating spider and as scary as they look, orb weavers are pretty docile.

says in Wikipedia they are solitary hunters. I would leave the thing alone and let it rid your rig or unwanted pests.
