Staring poop in the face!

In a campground with sewer we always keep the black tank closed and leave the gray tank open. I keep an eye on the black tank and dump until it's almost full, close the gray tank valve, take a couple of showers, then dump using the gray water to rinse the hose. Well guess what, I forgot to check it! Annette used to toilet, pushes the flush button, the dump valve opens, and guess what is staring her in the face! Yep, the tank has filled up and is backed up in the toilet drain pipe! She screams and runs out of there saying "how disgusting"

I bet I don't make that mistake again!

Change Sewer Hook-up

Change your sewer hook up to allow a sag (trap)in the line between the motorhome and the campground plug. that will allow no gas to rise in the system and allow both black and grey water to be open at all times.

You DON'T want to leave the black tank open at all times. This allows liquids to drain, solids sit, and you will eventually develop the infamous "black pyramid".

Sewer gas is the least of the reasons to leave the sewer valve closed. If you leave it open, the solids will gradually build up in the tank because there is not enough fluid it keep it soft and in suspension. If you routinely leave your black valve open, you are going to have a very unpleasant problem at a future date.

We have always left them both closed, once in a while the grey tank will need to be dumped by itself when taking showers more than, well you get the picture. . .

Will, with all due respect, I don't agree with you on this one. As others have said, that will definitely cause you big problems in the future!

Very wrong__, leaving the black tank open WILL allow solids to remain in the tank, resulting in a large hard blob of poo. It will be difficult and distasteful to remove the tank contents by hand. Only empty the black tank after it's 3/4 full or more. The weight of the water will push out the solids.

So go drain it. Leave the blank tank valve open all the time and your problems are just beginning. Be smart close the black tank value and empty when 3/4+ full.

Leaving the black tank valve open will build a burial Pyramid for the ancient Egyptian Pharroh of Pooh.

just had to say it been a slow day
