If you are a resident of one state and buy out of state you only have to pay the tax in your home state. Not the state you bought the RV in. If the dealer in that state tries to charge you tax just walk. It is not required.

Doc: Georgia has an option for owners to pay 6.75% tax on the purchase price, and there will not be any future ad valorem taxes when you renew your license plates.

I don't remember if that's available on a motor home. May be for travel trailers.

I keep my RV's in the North Georgia mountains, however I keep Alabama tags. While we have a personal property tax yearly, we only have a 2% sales tax on cars, trucks and RV's.

In Georgia, we purchased a used MH in May. I also purchased a Toyota Prius in 2012 just as the law was changing. When I paid my fees last week to get my tag decals, I paid $20 for each vehicle. Wrote a check for a whooping $40. Much nicer than when I use to have to pay $ 200-300 each year on my birthday just for my car.

To the OP, you can reduce the amount of tax you are paying on your new RV by subtracting the amount you received when you sold your old RV. There is a time limit.
