Storage bay shock blew

I opened the storage bay door(25 degrees outside) and the gas
from the shock emptied out.

Did this happen because I opened the door too quickly on a cold
day? Or should I only open door slowly on cold days?

Or was the shock on its way out anyway. (11 yr. old MH).

Thanks a million for your imput, Happy New Year

My Tradewinds is a 1999 and I've had to replace almost all the gas springs. It seems about 10 years is the life of these things.
Here is a good place to buy replacements. There easy to replace, one at a time and cost about $15.00 each.
